DES Pirate Log
November 28 - December 2, 2022 ~ B Week
Welcome back, everyone! I hope you all had the chance to relax and enjoy the holiday with friends, family, and all loved ones. Thank you for traveling grace for everyone that was on the road. We will have a special presentation hosted at DES for the Early Learning Collaborative on Monday. Thank you to all that took time on your break to decorate the school for our students. This week we will begin our winter diagnostics. Be sure to remind students of the goals they have set and your goals.
We can not let up! You all have worked hard to ensure that our instruction follows our district-wide beliefs! We have three more weeks before winter break, and we must take advantage of every moment.

Updates from the Office
- Be sure to have student clean up their areas in the cafe.
Lesson Plans are due in Canvas on Thursdays by 4 pm so we can provide timely feedback.
At recess you must be actively monitoring students while they play. Be sure to spread out and supervise. No jackets should be left after recess in the courtyard. Ensure that students have picked up there belongings.
Remember what is shared in GroupMe needs to benefit the entire group. If you need to ask a specific person please message them directly. Do not discuss students in GroupMe.
EEF card funds should be spent by December. Please work on spending your remaining funds during the break.
Who wants a 24/7 teaching assistant?!?
Have you ever wished you had someone who could help students individually with concepts while you're working with other students? What about someone who could read your students' writing and provide feedback BEFORE they submit it to you? Well, great news! You can do all of the above by making use of Paper.
Paper gives students in grades 3-12 24/7 access to live chat tutoring, writing feeedback, and study support! Teachers and students can access Paper via Clever. Want to know more? Schedule some time with Mr. Warden!
NOTE: Dr. Evers will have a session for Pirate Teachers that have joined us since 2021.
Formal Observations
Complete the form below if you want to sign up for your formal observation. Ms. Fryer or I will send you all calendar invite in the order of receipt. We will let you know if there is a conflict so you can select another day.
Please check my calendar before submitting a request to ensure that I can make it at the time you would like.

iReady Instructional Usage for the week
How does your class compare to the school average?
A few reminders in regard to utilizing our resource.
- Students in grades 1-5 should receive 45 minutes per week in both subjects on their iReady learning path. (Students shouldn't exceed 60 minutes per week.)
- Kindergarten should receive 30 minutes per week in both subjects on their iReady learning path. (Students shouldn't exceed 45 minutes per week.)
- The research behind the resource is that the minutes should be spent on their learning path in order to get the most bang for our buck.
- Assigned lessons count toward minutes, so please use those sparingly.
- Once students complete their minutes, they should work on the Math Learning Games. **This should be done prior to games on any other outside resources.
Be mindful of Time on Task, Lessons Passed, and any Domains that are turned off.
What does this data say to you?
Reading
Math
A Yellow Alert indicates that a student is struggling with lessons. It appears when a student does not pass the same lesson twice. A yellow alert will go away if:
· student passes the next lesson in the same domain.
· teacher adjusts the student's lesson placement in that domain.
· teacher turns the domain off and then back on again manually (ie. because the teacher paused the student's instruction in the domain while providing intervention, and then turned the domain back on when the student was ready to work again).
· the student completes a new diagnostic assessment.
A Red Alert indicates that at least one domain has been shutoff. It appears when a student doesn't pass two lessons in a row within a domain, after two attempts at each lesson. The domain is then turned off i.e., the student will be unable to access additional lessons in the domain. A Red alert will go away if:
· the teacher intervenes and turns the domain back on.
· the student completes a new Diagnostic assessment.
If a student has an alert, the teacher should view the student level report to see which lesson weren't passed. The teacher may wish to ask the students questions about this lesson such as did you try your best? Was the lesson too hard? The teacher should consider finding resources to help remediate theses skills before turning the domain back on.
Teachers you can turn domains back on for an individual student or for a whole class/report group.

Sick Days Donation Letter for Breanna Halley
For those of you who may be unaware, Brenna Halley has been undergoing treatment for her cancer that has left her unable to work. Her sick days and FMLA are out. Brenna, Zach Halley (her husband), and I are asking that anyone who can, please consider donating sick days to her. If Breanna is able to continue using sick-time, she will be able to maintain her insurance and continue to receive her salary each month. This will enable Zach and her to continue to afford the costly treatments required for her to keep the cancer at bay. We appreciate our Pass High family and are grateful for your continued support as Breanna continues her battle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please see Mrs. McKay if you are interested in donating any days.
Greta Ainsworth, Zachary Halley, and Breanna Halley
