Past Week...
This week we have worked on volume with word problems. Students will need to continue to practice solving volume with multiplication. Sometimes the word problem will give three dimensions of length, width, and height and sometimes it will give two dimensions that include the base or area along with the height. Students need to pay close attention to key words and details need to solve the problem.
V = l x w x h OR V = B x h
These are the steps to solving word problems that we are using in class.
Quick Steps for Brookwood Engineering and Design Process
- · Investigate (READ) the problem and understand it.
- · Plan how to solve by finding the information needed to answer the question.
- · Decide on a tool or strategy to solve the problem.
- · Create a solution, show your thinking, and evaluate your solution.
Upcoming Week...
Next week we will take a Show What you know on Tuesday, March 6th and the test will be on Thursday, March 8th, on volume. Please practice multiplication facts so that students feel confident in knowing their multiplication. That way they can just focus on the steps to solving the problems instead trying to remember the multiplication facts and steps to solving problems.
Please encourage your student to bring home their math journal to use to study the notes that they take in class. The math journal is a great resource when studying. If your student has been with me the whole year, they can even start reviewing their math journal on concepts that we learned back in August and September to prepare for the Georgia Milestone in math.
