Important Updates for AES
July 29th Edition
Learning Options for the 20-21 School Year
We know many of you are anxious about starting the new school year. We are, too, but we are ready to see our students and we are making every effort to get things prepared for their return! While there will be lots of changes and many new procedures in place to make sure students and staff are as safe and remain as healthy as possible, we still believe that having them in person in school is critical to their success as students. We wanted to revisit the options shared by the St. Clair County BOE and what that means for your child. Below are the options available. We've also included a more detail explanation of the hybrid option. Please know we will support your student with any option you choose. There is no right or wrong choice; every family must do what is best for them, but we want your children in school because we miss them and we miss doing what we do best--teaching children! If you have not completed the survey, you still have time. Please click the link below and make your selection. (With the Virtual option, there is an application process. Students are not automatically enrolled because you select that choice. You must apply and be accepted. The virtual is reaching capacity so it may no longer be a viable choice.)
I know that many of you have submitted your choice but may want to change it in light of the new orders. If you do want to change, please email me at email@example.com no later than August 7. I will record your change and respond to your email to let you know it was received. If you do not get a response, please call the school to verify.
- Traditional: students will attend school 5 days a week and follow a typical school schedule
- Hybrid: students will spend some time in the physical school building and some time online; students may have a different teacher when they are participating in online learning but the teacher will be a certified staff member of AES (click the PDF below to read more about the hybrid option).
- Virtual: all instruction is provided by the Virtual Preparatory School (VPS); attendance at VPS is through an application process
Revised 2020-2021 School Calendar
New calendar for the 20-21 school. Please note the first day of school is August 20th and we will have a staggered start. Please click the link to view the calendar.
Snap codes for returning students were sent on July 28 to the email on file. Please check your email inbox to ensure you received your child’s snap code. If it is not in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder. If after looking in those places, you still do not see your snap code, please email Summer Burke at firstname.lastname@example.org or Dr. Glover at email@example.com. You also may call the school at 205-594-5242.
If you have provided your proofs of residency to the school, you do not need to upload them in the registration portal. If you have not provided your proofs of residency, you may either upload them in the registration portal or bring them by the school.
Also, if your student will do traditional or hybrid, be sure to select Ashville Elementary as your school. If you are doing the Virtual Preparatory School (VPS) and you have applied and been accepted, you would choose the VPS as your school. If you have been accepted to the VPS, you will need to withdraw your student from AES.
The email sent on July 28 is for returning students only. New kindergarten students and new students to AES in grades 1st-4th who have provided proofs of residency should receive an email from the counselor with instruction on how to complete new student online registraton.
Kindergarten Orientation/Meet the Teacher
With the calendar change, our orientation/meet the teacher dates have changed. We are awaiting dates for district required training before setting our new dates. As soon as we have those, we will notify parents.
Please be sure we have the most current email address for you. If your email address has changed, please notify the school.
