RULES:
There has been a lot of talk and issues surrounding the behavior of the student section lately. I've talked before about things you can and cannot chant; things we chant must be positive. I want to be clear on why this is - it is because it is GSL rule, and we happen to be the only school who follows them. It's not because Prep wants to be party-poopers. So, below you will find the exact wording from the GSL Handbook regarding this matter (I simply copy and pasted):
- "4. Cheers: No cheers which reflect upon the opponents may be used."
- "5. Profanity or derogatory language of race, religion, gender, or other negative references to personal attributes will not be tolerated."
- "5. Remember your responsibility to mold and build good sportsmanship in others, as well as to help to create positive school spirit. You exercise great control over your student body!"
- "6. Keep your leadership on a POSITIVE level. Always cheer FOR YOUR TEAM, NEVER AGAINST YOUR OPPONENT. In line with concept, use only POSITIVE cheers, NEVER those which insult or degrade your opponents."
There are other rules in there that talk about noise makers, body paint, etc. and some of them don't make any sense. But the fact of the matter is that they are the rules, and just because we don't like/agree with a rule doesn't mean it doesn't pertain to us.
We need YOUR help to enforce these. That's part of you job as CheerLEADER.
If you ever have an issue with a student, and aren't comfortable addressing it yourself, please bring the issue to me or another coach, and we will handle it or hand it over to an Administrator. Because it is also their job to control the crowd.
