Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of August 31st
Dear Families,
Thank you for being such active partners as we get this school year off and running! Although there have been challenges out of our control, I have witnessed how our community has rallied to overcome these to ensure our students get a strong instructional foundation. I could not be prouder to be part of this amazing Sea Lion community!
This year, you will see and hear our district office and schools refer to the slogan "Fill your C.U.P.!" The acronym stands for part of the the phrase we are repeating throughout PVUSD: Learning Redefined through Connection, Unity and Purpose. This mantra serves as a basis for how we approach all that we do at Mar Vista. We are defined by our connections with one another, our unity in the efforts we make to provide high quality instruction and a positive and supportive school culture, and our purpose to realize equitable opportunities for each and every student.
You are very much a part of this community and I welcome and encourage you to participate in ways that speak to you. This may include participating on the Mar Vista Parent Club Board, donating and volunteering, or serving on School Site Council or ELAC. Whichever way you participate, we appreciate you and welcome your voice at Mar Vista.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Monroe

School Site Council - Get involved!
As part of the school plan we encourage the involvement of parents in the
education of their children. You are, therefore, invited to nominate yourself or another
person who you believe will serve our school community by being the voice of the parents
on the School Site Council. The first SSC Meeting will be on Tuesday 9/15 from 4:30-5:30 on the second Tuesday of each month thereafter throughout the school year. The council will meet to review and analyze the results of school wide assessments and climate data and make important decision on how best to utilize school resources. The names on the nomination form will be used for a voting ballot if each nominee agrees. All parents will be given the opportunity to vote for the parent members of the SSC via online ballot.
School Site Council Nomination Form - Nominations end on Friday September 4.
Pursuant to California Education Code (EC) Section 52855 and EC 64001 a school site council (SSC) is to develop, annually review and update the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The SSC must recommend the SPSA to the local governing board for approval. Thus the role of the SSC is crucial to the success of the categorical programs a school may have.
Please note: All school site council meetings are open to the public and dates are published on the school calendar found on the school's website. New business from the public may be added to the agenda, but no actions will be voted on until a subsequent meeting is held.
