One Seadog Family
Seadog Families,
We have had a great first 2 weeks of school! Our teachers are working hard to build relationships with students and deliver engaging and memorable learning experiences.
You may have heard the excitement from your child regarding our House System and the schoolwide House celebration. During the first week of school we held a house assembly with our 880 students to review expectations, learn about Samuel L Gravely, play games, sing the MATES chant, and gather as one Seadog Family. Our Quality Mates are Motivated, Appropriate, Trustworthy, Empathetic, and Safe in all areas of the School. The Six Seadog Family Houses are named after ships that Samuel L Gravely Jr. served on. Students who demonstrate MATES behaviors receive a MATES Token which is added to their classroom tracking jar. Houses are working together to earn the most MATES Tokens, and both quarterly and at the end of the year we celebrate the top house during assemblies. But most importantly is our schoolwide goal to recognize and demonstrate 125,000 MATES traits. We ask that every friday your student wears school spirit gear or their house colors (house colors shown below) Be sure to check out Seadog Family House System document below to learn more about how our Houses and PBIS System works, as well as pictures from our first assembly.
Gravely Elementary is experiencing the excitement of a growing population. This year the county projected enrollment was 797 students, yet we started the school year with over 880 students. In preparation for the influx of students we added additional classroom teachers to kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade creating 6 classes at every grade level, an additional autism program, and a second full time PE teacher. Our Biggest influx of students was in 1st grade in which we added almost 35 new Seadogs. We started the school year with six first grade classes that were ranging from 26-27 students per class, and have now added a new first grade class to reduce those class size averages to the low 20's. We would like to thank you all for your support as we make this positive transition for our students.
Please be sure to to join us for PTO movie night on September 20 @ 7:30, Back to School Nights on September 23rd and 25th, and Book Fair Family Night September 30th 4-7pm..
We look forward to working collaboratively with you to make this school year memorable for your child. As always, we would like to thank you for your continued support of Gravely! See you soon.
