Kindergarten Newsletter
Week Of May 9th
Highlights from last week....
In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. The children worked on making text to self connections while they read.
In phonics, we focused on letter formations, short vowels, building words and nonsense words.
In Math, we began our new module on building teen numbers. The children are really grasping the concept of 10 ones being the same as one 10. We also worked on grouping items in tens and then counting the ones. The kids loved working on this new skill.
In Social Studies, we have started our month long unit on community helpers.
In our Second Step program, we continued to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.
This week we read several nursery rhymes. We discussed the difference between a nursery rhyme and a story.
