Week Of May 9th

Highlights from last week....

Happy Mother's Day! I hope you all have a wonderful day and enjoy the gifts that your child made in class.

In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. The children worked on making text to self connections while they read.

In phonics, we focused on letter formations, short vowels, building words and nonsense words.

In Math, we began our new module on building teen numbers. The children are really grasping the concept of 10 ones being the same as one 10. We also worked on grouping items in tens and then counting the ones. The kids loved working on this new skill.

In Social Studies, we have started our month long unit on community helpers.

In our Second Step program, we continued to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.

This week we read several nursery rhymes. We discussed the difference between a nursery rhyme and a story.

A peek at our learning this week....

FUN WAYS TO PRACTICE SIGHT WORDS

Many of you have asked for different ways to practice sight words with your child. We found this website with some ideas. We hope it helps!

Change of Clothes

Please be aware that due to the warmer weather, we will be going outside as much as we can during recess. The playground will be wet. Please send in a change of clothes for your child. I will change out the clothes that I currently have for them when I receive the new ones from home. Also, if you send your child in to school with boots, please be sure to send in a pair of sneakers or shoes to change into. Our friends are coming in from recess soaking wet and they have nothing to change into. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

More information

We will be making a published kindergarten book. Make sure you send in the signed paper so your child can be part of the book.

We are talking a lot about how all people are part of the community we would love for you to come in and share with us what you do!!!

SUPPLIES NEEDED
Many parents are asking what the class needs for supplies. We could use some Clorox Wipes. Thank you in advance.

FLASHCARDS

Please practice letters and sounds with your child nightly! Thank you!

Thank you!!
