Suwanee Express
Week of September 21st
What a beautiful weekend! It's amazing how all of sudden the air changes and the need for everything pumpkin begins! :) It made me think about how we all our going at a pace beyond our control. We all are changing the way we approach teaching and learning daily sometimes even hourly. We are educators, and we are trained to learn, study, and keep looking for the solutions at all cost. But, I challenge us all in this season of uncertainty to think of these three things. We often need to now believe, trust, and hope. That's right. We have to take notice of our kids and what they are telling us. We have to take notice of each other and our teammates needs. We have to trust that the answers will come, and we will have to provide balance in ways we never imagined. Please don't give up! Don't stop believing that what you do EVERY DAY matters. Our kids and families need us. You are ALL absolutely amazing. Keep reanalyzing together what is working...what is not....and giving your students and yourself grace. We are in a season like no other. You are working HARD and doing something challenging. I AM SO PROUD OF EACH OF YOU. Your students LOVE you. Celebrate the smiles and small wins. Celebrate that we have each other. Celebrate that we have this amazing school and community cheering for us. Celebrate the incredible ways you are changing lives daily. Celebrate YOU. We can do hard things together!
Thank you for all you do! WE GOT THIS!
Your Biggest Cheerleader,

Okapi Leveled Texts
We have received almost 100 digital leveled text titles from Okapi that are free for our use this school year. Each title has its own link, so teachers can easily share the texts with students for instruction, and students can also access these texts for independent practice. Many of these titles also include running record transcripts, which will be valuable for teachers’ formative assessment as they work with their students. Teachers should follow their local school process for text selection and sharing with students.

Important Note From Our Suwanee PTA
Suwanee Teachers and Staff,
Each year, the PTA works hard to provide a mix of events and activities for our students and families. We understand that now, more than ever, we need to continue to focus on providing positive, exciting, and fun activities for our students and families.
We wanted to take a moment to give you a sneak peek at some of the exciting activities we have coming up just in the first semester:
- Suwanee Spooktacular: We won’t be able to bring back our beloved Jaguar Jamboree, but we still want to give our families a great time so we will be introducing a drive through Suwanee Spooktacular where families will be encouraged to wear costumes, decorate their cars, and drive around Suwanee Elementary to participate in trunk or treating and other fun, fall activities. Be on the lookout for more details soon. This will be held on October 23rd.
- Our Jaguar Jog is being rebranded to the Jaguar Jive as we dance our way to meet our fundraising goals. We are partnering with Boosterthon to do a program called DanceFit in lieu of the typical fun run. DanceFit can be done from home for our digital learners as well as at in person event at school. Be on the lookout for the teacher meeting and kick off on September 23. The program will run through October 2, when we have our DanceFit party.
- Virtual Holiday Story Night: One of our favorite nights of the holiday season will be held virtually. Families will be given the opportunity to pick up cookies and cocoa kits to enjoy from home while watching recordings of teachers and staff read classic stories. Virtual Story Night will be in early December 2020.
- Wonderland Holiday Shop: We’re hard at work planning a safe way to bring the holiday shop back for our students. We know this is one of the kids’ favorite activities so we’re doing everything we can to make it happen for them. We anticipate our holiday shop being a mix of in person and online shopping. Our holiday shop will be in early December 2020.
- Virtual STEM Night: Ok, technically this event is in the second semester, but it’s close enough to the first semester that we’re sharing it with you now. For our virtual STEM night, families will be encouraged to pick up a kit of STEM supplies. These supplies will serve as the tools they’ll need to to complete the challenges in our Virtual Escape room. These activities will be for families to work together over a weekend. Virtual STEM night will be in January 2021.
We hope that you all are as excited about these events as we are! We’ll be communicating more details soon about these events.
Thank you for everything you’re doing to provide a safe, happy, and welcoming learning environment for both our in-person and digital students.
