Temporary Virtual Learning at LPS
August 16-20, 2021
"What do I need to know about virtual learning this week?"
Due to the spread of COVID-19 in our schools, all in-person schools in the School District of Pickens County are closed this week and will shift to temporary virtual learning (for more information, click here). While this was unexpected, SDPC is committed to the health and safety of our students and staff, and our teachers have worked hard to plan for instruction with students this week. Please review the choice boards and information below in order to have the best experience possible. We hope this newsletter will help you to understand and prepare for our Temporary Virtual Learning Week. Let us know how we can assist you!

Meals This Week
All schools will offer curbside meal pickup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents will be able to pick up both breakfast and lunch each day at one time. School buses will travel to their morning routes (with added stops to catch some of the afternoon areas) carrying meals beginning Tuesday, August 17th this week. No prior sign-up is required to receive these meals. Click here for more information.
Reporting Positives to School Nurse
In an effort to safely return and maintain a face-to-face environment, please report positive cases and any close contacts with COVID-19 that may occur this week. Please make contact with your school nurse (Angela Belan - 397-4807) regarding COVID-19 situations.
What if I'm interested in Pickens County Virtual Academy?
We know that some of the most heavily impacted students at this time are our children who are medically fragile. On Tuesday, we will be sharing an opportunity for these students with documented medical situations to move into the limited additional positions in our Pickens County Virtual Academy. These students will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Tech It Home Fees
Although technology devices are being made available to all students, Tech It Home fees are still required in order for students to take home their devices after this temporary virtual learning week. The $20 Tech It Home fee must be paid. The fee can be paid by cash, check, or through MySchoolBucks. If you need to arrange a payment plan, please contact your child's teacher ASAP.
SDPC Tech Help
For technical support, please see the SDPC Tech It Home site for some useful tips for parents and students. For any specific technical needs or concerns, please email Mr. Norris at Liberty Primary at andynorris@pickens.k12.sc.us or call the school at 864-397-4800.
Internet Accessibility Options
For families who do not currently have home internet access, SDPC recommends the following options.
School Parking Lots
Students can access school Wi-Fi from all of our school parking lots.
Click here for directions on how to connect to school Wi-Fi. Gates to our parking lots will remain open so that students can park on our properties and access school Wi-Fi. Students will not be allowed to congregate outside their vehicles. Students seen meeting outside their vehicles will be asked to leave.
Pickens County Public Library
The Pickens County Public Library system operates facilities throughout Pickens County and is open from 10 am to 6 pm.
