60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
The mission of the Strongsville Education Foundation is dedicated to raise and disburse funds to support and foster creativity, innovation and outstanding achievement for the students, the teachers and the community served by the Strongsville City Schools. Their biggest fundraiser of the year, Jockeys & Juleps, is right around the corner. The event will be held on Saturday, May 5th at 5:30pm at Strongsville’s Ehrnfelt Recreation Center. In this week’s episode, we visit with Brian Jungeberg, President of the Foundation and Dan Stroemple, Managing Partner of Square 22, a Triple Crown Event Sponsor. Click HERE to hear more about Jockeys & Juleps and the continued impact The Foundation is making on our District.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: SCHOOL SAFETY - VIDEO ON DEMAND
If you missed this week’s Community Conversation on school safety, the complete presentation and video of the event is now on demand. Click HERE or visit the Superintendent’s page on the District website at https://www.strongnet.org/Page/12039. The Community Conversation featured Superintendent Cameron Ryba, Strongsville Chief of Police Mark Fender, and Strongsville Safety Director Charles Goss in a discussion about steps our District is taking, in partnership with Strongsville’s safety services, to ensure our facilities are the safest they can be for our students, staff, and visitors.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. EILEEN KERR, ART TEACHER AT WHITNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
This week’s Mustang Spotlight features Mrs. Eileen Kerr, Art Teacher at Whitney Elementary. Mrs. Kerr started in the business world after earning her BA in Interior Design at Bowling Green State University. Following a career as a designer for many years, Mrs. Kerr went back to school and earned her teaching license from Baldwin Wallace in 2008. She started as a substitute in our District that same year and taught at Strongsville High School and Zellers Elementary, before arriving at Whitney Elementary.
“I enjoy working with our students at Whitney and seeing their excitement as they create art. It’s great to hear their enthusiasm when they create a new color or when they lift a print and reveal what they made,” says Mrs. Kerr.
She adds, “I especially love when students approach me outside of class time and tell me about their experiences away from school that relate to what they learned in my classroom – whether it’s finding a book at the library about Monet, or going to a museum, or playing a game with their family and answering a question about an artist we studied - knowing that you are making that kind of an impact is very special.”
Thank you Mrs. Kerr for encouraging the creative talent and abilities of our Whitney Elementary students!
