OLMP Royals End of Year Wrap up!
Thank you to all the OLMP School Community for all your work to continue student learning during at home learning. Our staff has worked hard this week to have report cards ready for you all today. These can be accessed in your PowerSchool. If you have any questions as always please connect with your homeroom / teacher advisor's on Monday as that is the last day for staff at OLMP. Please be aware that an "I" in front of a grade in your report card means that the student received that grade with additional supports/accommodations.
Along with preparing report cards staff also sent out farewell messages to their homeroom classes and welcome messages to all of their new homeroom / teacher advisors (some very fun videos) so students should check their emails or homeroom / teacher advisor groups for those messages from their teachers as we look forward to welcoming you all back in the new school year.
We hope you also saw this weeks Camrose Booster with our staff thank you, athletics recognition and article on our new Principal Mrs. Thiessen who has also personalized a message to you all below. You can also find below our updated school handbook, school supply lists, and a summer learning support doc for those that may want to do some extension activities to prepare them for next school year over the summer. Please note that school supplies can be purchased through Staples on July 15th as indicated on the supply list, but they do not have to be, and the online Staples program allows you to pick and choose items in case you have some that you could reuse next school year. Be mindful that next school year students will not be permitted to share supplies so please ensure you get enough for yourselves and if you are struggling to get supplies reach out to our Family Wellness Worker Mrs. Kushnerick as she is a support to you all as well - laurie.kushnerick@eics.ab.ca. She is off this summer but you can reach out and she will be sure to connect upon return.
We also want to welcome some new staff that are joining us from St. Patrick's school, Mrs. Burnstad will be joining the OLMP family teaching a grade 7 homeroom class as well as some Art and Mrs. Palsitt Lefler who will be teaching a grade 6 homeroom as well as some grade 5 PE and Art. We are very excited to welcome them and are happy some of our grade 5's will have some familiar faces at OLMP in September.
We are planning to have our high school registration days as well as early entry days for grade 5's and 6's to come to OLMP for an orientation the week of August 24th so stay tuned for more information on that.
A final note to our Grad class we are missing you already and please know that Mrs. Smith will be taking over Grad coordination for this group as Mr. Sych is moving to Sherwood Park. You will be hearing from her in the case that we are able to have our traditional in person grad for this class. We will be in touch and your photos from our grad parade day will be emailed to each of you in the weeks to come.
Stay well this summer, stay safe, and remember your OLMP family is re-energizing over the summer to welcome you all back to the best school year yet!
Welcome Principal Thiessen!
I cannot wait to be part of the OLMP school family. I have heard really wonderful things about your school and the supportive parent community. I also had a chance to view the beautiful “Thank You” video that was created and it made me even more eager to get to know all of you.
In the past I have worked as a teacher, counsellor and assistant principal at Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School in Sherwood Park. I was also the principal of St. Mary’s School in Vegreville. Presently I am a principal in China at the Canadian International School of Guangzhou, an Alberta Accredited International School. Which is basically an Alberta school (same curriculum, same PATs, same Diploma exams) but the only difference is that it is located in China.
I feel fortunate to have experienced online learning here in China and the transition back to school. Currently our entire school is back and we are Pre-Kindergarten 2-years old to Grade 12. I want to offer you the hope that returning back to school and being face-to-face is possible and we will accomplish everything together. In China our teachers, students and school staff are so happy to be back on campus that we do not mind the change to some of our protocols and following rules that keep us extra safe. I look forward to helping OLMP transition back to school and ensuring success for all of our students. The 2020-2021 school year is going to be an EXCELLENT.
When it comes to students I am a big fan of sports, fine arts, leadership and all clubs/groups. I want to be your biggest cheerleader when it comes to you achieving your academic goals and I want to support you as you pursue your passions in extra-curricular activities. I can promise you that I will be there to watch your games and in the front row of the drama production. I am already your biggest fan.
May you have a blessed summer. Be safe, be well and I will keep the entire OLMP family in my prayers. If you have any questions or would like to send me an email just to say hello I can be reached at tanyath@eics.ab.ca
God Bless you.

Young Medical Minds is looking for students entering Grade 8 in September of 2020. This is a partnership of local medical professionals, Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health and the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta. This program is a free, six week course developed to provide grade 8 students with the opportunity to experience hands-on exposure to various aspects of the medical field. Your child will attend this extra-curricular course one evening per week for 6 weeks. The course will take a medical scenario that is relevant to the students and follow it through the medical system. Each night will highlight health promotion and medical management.
The first session of the program will start September 17, 2020 and the final wrap-up session will be on October 22, 2020. The second session will start January 7, 2021 and finish February 18, 2021.

Weekly Prayer:
God of Wisdom, we thank you for all the gifts you have given us throughout this school year. We praise you for giving us life, for saving us in Christ, and for choosing us to be your people.
As we come to the end of this school year, we voice our gratitude for the good things you have done in us, and we praise you for all who have shared in the work of this school.
We ask you to bless them in your love and give them refreshment and peace. We praise you, God, through Jesus Christ Our Lord, who lives and reigns forever and ever.
Amen.
