Notes from the Nurse Kristal Mathews, RN

What’s going around this week?

This week we are still battling the stomach bug and Strep throat mostly. We also have had some reports of Covid this week. PLEASE make sure that your child is well enough to come to school and participate in the school day. Please remember our district illness policy in regards to illness. Please refer to the chart below. If you are sending an ill child to school you are spreading the illness to others.

1) Illness Policy/guidelines: Please email KES.Attendance@hayscisd.net & myself, if a student is ill and missing school. District policyA student with any of the following symptoms may be excluded from school until the student is free of symptoms, has been treated by their physician or submits a signed physician’s statement that he/she is not contagious and is able to return to school. (See picture below)

Clothing and toileting:

SMALL Kids Be sure your child knows how to undress/redress for using the restroom. Have them practice belts, buckles, putting on socks and shoes, before beginning school. BIG kids - Girls might want to pack bottoms in case they start their period; I have some supplies to help out but sizing is limited and some of our ladies are larger than what I have.

Please send extra clothes to school with your child just in case of an emergency.

As we head into cooler weather, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for playing outside. Please send a jacket to use for recess. I do not have extra jackets to provide.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and KES Houses
