Newsletter - February 7, 2022
Dear Families
How was your weekend? I really didn't do much, which was nice! I caught up on a few emails and began reading my new book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Sean Covey. I would like to create a culture in this building that better supports students as leaders. We are moving in the right direction, but this will take some time. If you get a chance, check out Netflix's Nightmare Alley. Good acting and unique storyline! I think you will enjoy!
Black History Month
Shania Murat and Nyall Troy have been doing a wonderful job presenting daily announcements to recognize Black Americans who have contributed to the growth and development of our country. This week, we recognized the accomplishments of Mae C. Jemison, Mark E. Dean, Dorothy Johnson Vaughan, and George Washington Carver.
As an additional Black History Month resource, please see the Ocean County Library's eNewsletter. It includes the library's BHM calendar of events, which is open to all. It also includes Films provided by Kanopy and a Book List by NoveList, and those are available with an Ocean County Library card. Anyone without a library card can apply online or at a local branch to access these and many other resources
Month of Love
We love our students and appreciate our staff for all they do in support of student success. We recognized staff members, Mrs. Rachel Calhoun, Mr. Charlie Diskin, Mr. Nigel Arcia, and Mrs. Laura Morgan. We recognized students, Erin Mitchell, Lea Ferrari, Kaylee Urbanski, and Nicholas Pobol. Congratulations to all of our recipients and thank you to our local organizations who graciously donated prizes!

Newsworthy...
College Spotlight
Each Friday, the students receive a College Spotlights of the Week posted in their school counselor's Google Classroom. These spotlights come from colleges and universities who have sent updates and information to our office. The post then connects them to our College and Career website (under "Selecting a College that Fits) where they are spotlighted in detail with direct links. This is worth noting as these spotlights feature application fee waivers, new majors or university expansions, or special events to name a few.

Respectful Raiders
Congratulations to Charlie Cunningham, Doaa Jamil, and Kelsey Broderick for being recognized as Respectful Raiders. Charlie returned the belongings of another student to the Main Office while Doaa and Kelsey were kind enough to bring Donuts to school to the Main Office! Thank you Charlie, Doaa, and Kelsey for being proud reflections of our school community!
World Down Syndrome Day
We are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, 2022. We are selling t-shirts to help raise awareness. All proceeds will go to fund community outings for our special needs students. Payment can be dropped off to Mrs. Emily Basenfelder and/or Mrs. Karen Shaunessey.
Scheduling
Mrs. Ann Millard created out Student 4-Year Scheduling Guide for parents to complete with their child. Attached are forms your child will be provided during this week's scheduling meetings. We would like our students to complete their vision for their tenure as a Raider to provide clarity for the graduation process. All of our forms will be posted on the Google Classroom of your child's counselor.
