The Mac Memo
November 2018
News from the Principal
We’ve had a busy start to our year! You have been great about our new start and end times this year (9:00 a.m. – 4:10 p.m.). Thank you for helping with quick pick-ups at the end of the day. Not waiting for late pick ups, helps our teachers and staff get home to their families too!
Magnet Applications - if you are a current magnet student, you do not need to reapply. If you have a sibling, you will need to apply for this student. You need to complete this prior to the deadline to be eligible for sibling priority. The deadline for the applications is February 15 and can be found at our district magnet website: usd259.org/magnet
Attendance & Tardies - We want to give a big shout out to our families for working really hard to help get our students to school on time. We have set a goal to less than 25 tardies per week, and we are making that goal consistently. Remember...the bell starts our instruction at 9:00 when we start our morning announcements. All students should be in their classroom by that time.
Red Ribbon Week - Our STUCO students did a great job planning our Red Ribbon Week. It was a blast and students learned some valuable lessons about staying Drug-free!
School-wide STEM Project - Don't forget that students should be working on their Career Projects. Here is a recap of the of the information sent home.
General Guidelines
1. Participation is required for all McLean students and will count as a science & English/Language Arts grade for the quarter. Siblings may not do joint projects. Projects should be a product of students’ own effort, ideas and work.
2. Students will choose a career that interests them. They will create a display to:
- Explain the responsibilities of this job
- Exhibit photos of them dressed up for that career
- Explain how science, technology, engineering or math are used in this career
3. Completed projects will be brought to school Thursday November 29.
Students will present their project in class after which projects will be displayed all day and during our evening STEM Night celebration. Students may come to school dressed as their career choice that day.
4. Display area will be no greater than 3 feet wide x 15 inches deep. This will
accommodate a typical tri-fold display board. Projects must be labeled with name & classroom teacher.
5. Each student will receive a brag tag for their participation.
STEM Night will be from 6:00 - 7:30 on November 29th.
PUSIC - a big thank you to our specials team for their work and thank you so much for your flexibility on our event. We had a great time and were happy to have fun with our families!

We know we have amazing teachers at McLean...let's tell our District about them!
From the Desk of...Lindsay Miller, PTA President
Happy Fall Ya’ll! Thanks again to all the families that have joined the PTA. You can join us anytime throughout the year for only $5 per person. Remember that we meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the library and provide childcare in the gym during our meeting. We hope to see everyone there next month on November 13th!
Fall Fun Run Fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, November 17th…MARK Your Calendar! You will be receiving a packet for the Fall Fun Run. Be sure to look through. Each class has a goal, so be sure to help! The event will be lots of fun, with games, prizes, donuts, coffee, and hot cocoa. Our goal is to collect $5000 and if we do Mrs. Graves will dress like a turkey at school on November 20th.
SchoolStore.com – we have a unique opportunity to do or holiday shopping through a new link that is a similar idea to ebates. Your student will be bringing home envelope with the information to sign up. Over 400 online stores, like WalMart, Target, Kohls are available through this link. Just visit www.schoolstore.net and sign up using our school ID: 111629. You can also end emails to friends and family and invite them to shop through our link. We will earn a small percentage for each purchase.
Box Tops - The total amount earned from the summer collections is $584.70. A little less than last year, but hopefully the monthly turn-ins will be good. We are $516 away from our $1100 goal for the year, so be sure to turn them in each month. It may not sound like a lot, but it is 5,000 boxtops we turned in!
