Hi All,
We had a very strong turnout for Parent-Teacher Conferences yesterday. If you attended, I want to thank you for your patience in waiting to meet with teachers, and I welcome any feedback regarding how we might streamline or better facilitate the conference scheduling process.
If you were unable to attend conferences, please feel free to reach out to your child's teachers to schedule a phone conference or an alternate meeting. Your participation strengthens our school community and supports a culture of shared learning expectations.
On November 19th the MHS School Council - including parents, teachers, and students- convened for the second meeting of the academic year. At the meeting, the Council appointed a new representative to the District Health and Wellness Committee and agreed to organize a subcommittee of Council members to support home-school communication surrounding our NEASC 21st Century Learning Reports. In addition, the Council received information regarding key FY20 budget requests, and provided feedback regarding potential changes to the Program of Studies (including new courses under consideration and new features in the booklet).
I invite you to join the MHS community at the Girls Basketball Endowment Games held next Friday night, December 7 at 5:30 and 7PM! See below for more details.
Finally, if you're interested, a colleague shared a quick read with me yesterday regarding the benefits of sleep and how to support teenagers in getting more of it:
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
Best regards,
Mary Watkins

Outreach Van Project
National Honor Society
NHS officers attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester for the annual Massachusetts National Honor Society Fall Conference. During the day our students took part in a variety of break-out sessions centered on promoting student service, leadership, and well being. The students collaborated with other NHS chapters to brainstorm many ways that they can work to engage their school communities in a greater commitment to serving others.
We are proud of the way our students represented Mansfield. They are very committed to their role of helping others and working to establish strong service projects in our community.
Pictured below are our 2018-2019 officers:

AFL-CIO Scholarship Program
The Annual AFL-CIO Scholarship Program is in its 61st year. Through the scholarship program, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is honored to continue a long tradition of helping students continue their education as they work toward creating bright futures.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarship program awardees receive between $500 and $16,000 towards their education. Over 40 unions, central labor councils, area businesses and charitable trusts from across Massachusetts participate in awarding scholarships that total nearly half a million dollars. Unions in Massachusetts have given close to $10 million in scholarships since 2000. About 1,500 students take the exam annually to compete for a scholarship. Students with a union affiliation are eligible for both the Massachusetts AFL-CIO awards and those awards listed under their specific local union/central labor council. Massachusetts students that do not have union affiliation are eligible for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarships only.

New Drop Off Procedures
At the Mansfield Public Schools, student safety is top priority. At the present time, we recognize the need to improve the conditions during student drop off in the morning at MHS and QMS. Effective Monday, November 5, vehicles will not be aloud to enter the “bus loop” between 6:45 am and 7:25 am. Students at MHS should be dropped off either at the side entrance by the Athletic Wing or from the East Street parking spots which were created for this purpose. We thank you for your understanding!
