JBD FOCUS
JBD Parent Newsletter - November 3, 2017
Great things are happening!
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,
The first quarter is almost ending and we have to say, it's been fun and productive. What an amazing day we had on Halloween. The children were all so cute and the donations to the United Way totaled over $1000.00! Thanks for all who participated in the fun and a special thanks to the PTA for the trinket bags for all of the students.
We also appreciate the efforts of the PTA regarding the two skating parties. Loved the dancing and the excitement on wheels, pizza, the play place, and big smiles!
Our students are already showing tremendous progress this year, working and learning together. No doubt, you will hear all about their amazing learning achievements at the parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Many of you have already met with your child's teachers. Please know how important we consider the relationship between home and school. Research has shown that communication between home and school is a huge contributing factor to a child's success as a student. When I taught kindergarten I used to tell parents, "You believe half of what you hear, and I will believe half of what I hear, and if there is anything puzzling or worrisome...we will talk!"
Thanks to all of you for allowing us to work with and teach your precious children. JBD is fortunate to have so many wonderful families.
Enjoy the weekend, and don't forget to vote!

CLINIC CORNER
No one wants to talk about it but it can affect any school age child, their parents, siblings and friends. It’s a call from the school nurse no parent wants to receive. If you identify and treat your child for head lice please contact me and let me know. Any information given to the clinic is kept confidential and only shared with your child’s teacher. A parent letter to all students in that class will be sent home letting other parents know there is a case of head lice in your student’s class. If there are 2 or more students in the same class identified with head lice we will check heads in the class. Head lice is not an easy thing to look for if you don’t know what the eggs looks like and can be mistaken for dry scalp. If you would like us to check your child’s head please give the clinic a call and I will have them come to the clinic. Checking a child’s head is done discreetly to maintain their privacy. If the clinic identifies your child with head lice or nits (eggs) you will receive a call to pick up your child to go home for treatment. The parent head lice letter will go home as well. Children who have been treated for head lice can come to school with nits (eggs) in their hair. It takes diligence for a few consecutive days to remove all eggs from a head of hair.
A few things you can do to stay ahead of Head lice:
Check your child’s head if you see excessive scratching or if they complain their heads itch.
Treat head lice with an over the counter head lice shampoo or all natural treatment. Because head lice are getting more resistant to the over the counter shampoo treatment sometimes the prescription treatment is better especially if you see frequent reoccurrence.
Remove all nits (eggs). The shampoo kills the head lice and loosens the “glue” that adheres the eggs to the hair shaft but it takes the physical removal of all nits (eggs) to prevent frequent reoccurrence.
Head lice can live off a scalp for 1-2 days. It’s important to vacuum carpets and furniture and to wash all bedding.
With the cooler weather coats and hats are being worn. Have your child put their coat and hat inside their back pack. Head lice don’t fly but they do crawl.
If your child is sent home from school with head lice I will recheck their head in a week. It is recommended a second treatment be done in 7-10 days.
Any questions please call the clinic – 648-2447.
