Amazing Kids!
Two weeks ago I told you about our 7th Grade Academic Team winning a 4-state competition. That is terrific! It's always nice to have your hard work rewarded. But something happened with this group that I think is more important.
Please read the email below, which I received from Academic Team Coach Mrs. Jones.
“We were going to start our thinking cap event (practice for the academic team competition). Lily and some others stopped, prayed, then started the competition. Brought tears to my eyes. At our LaSalle Competition we always pray, but didn’t think of it today. I’m so proud of them.”
I am also very proud of our students: Lily Schebler, Sady Hirt, Megan Batta, Claire Saner, Rhea Miller, Marco Canessa, Madison Wanstrath, Sadie Wachsmann, Kate Weber, coach Diane Jones, coach Koehler Flaspohler.
What a wonderful reminder of why we are here at SLS. Merry Christmas to all!
Mr. Chad Moeller

ALP Amazon Wishlist
As many are aware, ALP (Advanced Learning Placement) is a hands on, STEM and STEAM based curriculum designed for grades 2 - 8. This program is fun and high energy, but also rather costly. It was brought to Mrs. Giesting's attention that sharing an Amazon Wishlist for her ALP class would be beneficial to parents. Thank you for considering a purchase from this wishlist or the purchase of an Amazon gift card to be used towards this wishlist. Do not feel obligated to buy anything! This is not a requirement! If you want to make a purchase, but not right now, that is fine too - Just check back often as she updates her list throughout the year. Thank you for helping make ALP educational and fun for our students!
To view the wishlist go here: https://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/1UKN358YFH74X/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_gm__wl
OR
Email Mrs. Giesting (sgiesting@st.louisschool.org) requesting the ALP Wishlist and she will send the link personally.
Thank you!
3rd graders did an awesome job with their classroom play!
Library News
Please check with your children to see if they have any outstanding library books. Currently the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have the most books out, so please have them work hard to get them turned in. The reward for classes with no books out will be an "out of uniform" pass for the entire class.
Thank you,
Kim Schrank

Happy Birthday, Indiana!
Happy Birthday, Indiana!
By Lucy Meyer
Fourth Grade SLS students do fun activities to celebrate Indiana's statehood! On December 11, 2018, the 4th grade students participated by making play dough sculptures of Indiana. They also made a tin punch of Indiana, stamp drawing, pin the star on Indianapolis, and a Kahoot! about facts of Indiana. Parents came to help with the party too! The cross stitch was many kids' favorite project. Leigh Walmsley said that her favorite station was the tin punch because it was loud! A large amount of people enjoyed making whirly gigs and had fun playing with them. It was a great day for a celebration!
6th Graders Learn About Tabacco
6th Graders Learn About Tabacco
Kim Linkel, representing the Coalition for a Drug Free Batesville, and Meg Applegate, from MMCH, spoke to St. Louis School 6th graders about the dangers of tobacco products. Students learned many facts, including the dangers of vaping and e-cigarettes.In addition, students were taught very important refusal skills, for when they are pressured to use tobacco. St. Louis School thanks Mrs. Linkel and Mrs. Applegate for their service to the students in our community.
