Parent Connection

Monday, Sept. 23rd we will host our 2nd Parent Connection meeting at 8:00. The focus for this meeting will be Student Led Conferences. We hope you are able to join us and invite you to RSVP if you haven't already.

We look forward to visiting with you about this important tool for your child.

Talking to Children About School

When you ask your child how school was, do you usually get a one-word answer? We have from our own children, too. Framing our questions differently, often allows our children to think about specific things that have happened that day and spurs further conversation. We would like to share some links with you to give you ideas about framing your questions in unique ways.

Pirate Musical

WOW!!! The Blanton Music Club put on an amazing performance in this year' Pirate Musical. Our students knew the music and sang as professionals! The acting was superb and the solo performances were fantastic! Many thanks to our students for their dedication to learning their parts and all the music. We also want to thank Mr. Miranda for his work preparing our students, especially as it is early in the year. We also appreciate our stage hands for their work tonight as well.

Last night's production would not have been possible without our parent volunteers. We extend a special thank you to these parents:

  • Mr. Balmos for volunteering his woodworking skills. He met with Mr. Miranda to get a vision of what was needed for the ship and then built it off-site and brought it to school. It was perfect!
  • Mrs. Burges, Mrs. Rodgers, Mrs. Rodney, and Mrs. Haddon for their expertise with face painting. Our pirates looked great!
  • Allison and Wayne Rodney for their artistic design with our stage. This play was in two acts (one on a ship and one on a deserted island). All of it looked great!

We look forward to Blanton's next musical production!

Reading in Mrs. Kenny's Class

This week, students in Mrs. Kenny's class invited their parents to school. During the visit they shared their reading goals and what they were working on in class. Parents and children read together, practiced fluency, and reviewed the phonics instruction they are receiving. We are so proud of all of Mrs. Kenny's students and thank our parents for their support.

Share Table

If you are new to Blanton you may not know we have a share table in the cafeteria! Mrs. Dorrell is in charge of our share table. Each day students can "Share" uneaten food from their lunch. Food must be unopened and not need to be refrigerated. At the end of the week she donates the food to Fred Moore Day School Nursery. It also helps stock a small food pantry at the Nursery for families in need. We are reducing a lot of waste in the cafeteria by having a share table. Talk to your student if there are things you don’t want them to share so they know to save them for home!

If you have questions or concerns about this program, please contact Mrs. Dorrell.
