Daniel Webster Elementary School
Weekly Update:
A Message From Mrs. MacNeil
Greetings DWS Families!
We survived our first full 5 day week! Next week will be an exciting week where we come together as a community to show our support for Pediatric Cancer, which is near and dear to our hearts. All week we will work to fill our golden boot in the office with donations and then on Friday, we will wear yellow/gold to show our support for the brave warriors who are fighting and/or who have fought against Pediatric Cancer.
I am looking forward to a great week!
In Partnership,
Mrs. MacNeil
DWS Goes Gold for Pediatric Cancer
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. To commemorate this, next week DWS is Going Gold! To "kick" us off, we will have a boot in the front office to collect spare change donations. All week long, students are invited to bring spare change to put in the boot. All money will be donated to South Shore Action for Hope, which fundraises for pediatric cancer research. Through this fundraiser, we are aiming to give pediatric cancer the boot!
As a culmination to our week of fundraising, DWS will hold a special event on Friday, September 23. All classes will have the opportunity to join together for a walk outside to support Pediatric Cancer. All staff and students are encouraged to wear “Gold” to school on Friday, September 23 to show their support.
School Council Nomination
Since the passage of the 1993 Education Reform Act, all schools in Massachusetts must form School Councils, which include representation from parents, teachers, the community, and school administration. The purpose of the School Council is to involve parents and teachers in school decision-making. The School Council will also formulate an annual school improvement plan with the goal to strengthen the bond between our school and the Marshfield community we serve. This plan is then submitted to the Superintendent and School Committee.
We are looking for TWO parents to join our School Council this year! We encourage all parents to consider this opportunity for meaningful dialogue and active participation in our Daniel Webster School community. The meetings are generally held once each month on Tuesdays at 4:00.

Important Message for Families with Middle School Aged Children Regarding District Wide Early Dismissal
The FBMS dismisses over 900 students at 11:55 AM for early release and has seen hundreds of students going to the turf and track on our campus or descending on Roche Brothers or Wendy's, or other nearby businesses. While the majority of the students do not create any issues, they typically hear from businesses, neighbors, or families about concerns or issues that arise. Please know that MPSD Staff and Administration are in professional development sessions, so are not available to supervise students after school hours.
Please know that students are not allowed on any MPSD property on early-release days without adult supervision. This includes the turf and stadium on the FBMS/MHS/MES campus, as well as the four other elementary schools while elementary schools are still in session. Officer Hernon, our School Resource Officer, will be monitoring these areas on campus and instruct all students that they are not allowed on school property after dismissal on early release days. Parents may want to reach out to the Boys & Girls Club to see what offerings are available for early-release days.
Additionally, parents and guardians are reminded that students are not allowed to ride any bus other than the one they are assigned. This is a district policy and has been in effect for many years.

DWS Security Updates
As a security measure, we will not be letting visitors into the building unless you are volunteering. Visitors who have a scheduled meeting will wait in the vestibule and be escorted by the host to the meeting.
All visitors must present a valid ID - no exceptions! We understand that we know many parents/guardians, but we will be requiring ALL visitors to present their ID when they volunteer and/or pick up a student - EVERY TIME. This will be frustrating at first, but we are working hard to maintain the safety of our students.
Arrival & Dismissal Protocols
