Panther families!
Thank you for all your support, interest and questions around our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and RP (Restorative Practices) implementation. This is something that is near and dear to my heart, as I was on the implementation team in my previous district six years ago, progressed to being a coach and am THRILLED to bring these skills and practices to our students at Penngrove. Please watch the video below to learn more about PBIS and RP, and continue to reach out with any questions and thoughts. We are all here to educate and support the students!
As with anything new, there is a predictable cycle. First, the honeymoon stage, where things may be a little confusing, but looking good! Next, things may appear to be even worse for a short time as students try to push back against the changes, and last, after consistency and determination, we settle into the pattern we wanted with the expected behaviors on the rise. This does not mean all problems are eliminated, but they will lessen, we will be more equitable in handling them, and the students will know we are here to support their growth.
We can’t wait for Jog-a-thon on Friday! Keep getting those donations and join us on Friday during your students' jog time, if you're able to! Our PTA is working so hard to make this a great event for Penngrove. Our campus looks like a party waiting to happen!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!
PennStaff Spotlight!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
Give me an example of how you were a good friend this week.

Fun with Coach K!
Be sure to follow our Jog-a-thon Spectator Rules

Class of 2023 at the Cotati Accordion Festival
The 6th graders at Penngrove look forward to a lot of school traditions and legacy events to participate in. One annual event that supports sending the Panthers to their 6th grade camp is providing assistance at the Cotati Accordion Festival. The event was held this past weekend and the students helped by running the raffle while parents (and grandparents!) drove the shuttle and filled crossing guard positions. Our students sold a record number of raffle tickets this weekend and we are so proud of how they represented the Penngrove community. Check out some cute pictures below! More information on the Class of 2023 will be in next weeks #PenngrovePress.

It has been an excellent week in the garden! We are harvesting and processing wheat from pizza garden in fifth and sixth grades, continuing our butterfly studies, getting crafty with some butterfly projects AND planting our Fall garden. We are trying to keep our tender little starts going in this heat! It is a great time to plant some chard, onions, carrots, beets, lettuce and kale for Fall harvest. We are also continuing to enjoy the harvest of pears and apples from my farm as well as cherry tomatoes and yummy dill and fennel seeds. Your students may come home telling you about “healthy gum” they ate in garden. Yum!
TK/K students are learning garden expectations and enjoying their time up here. I have had absolutely AMAZING parent volunteer involvement and truly appreciate all your time and effort out here to make our program the best it can be for our wonderful student body. I will continue to have my sign up doc (here) for you to see if your student’s class can use a volunteer. If you have any questions about volunteering please reach out at aortiz@petk12.org its a really fun way to get involved!
This week, we've been talking all about mindset and anxiety with our read aloud, The WhatIfs. It's a great reminder for every person of every age.
We need YOUR help!

Hello!
I hope the school year is off to a good start! My name is Cassie (PHS Class of 2007!) and I am a volunteer with Miracle League North Bay, a non-profit based out of Petaluma that is dedicated to giving athletes with special needs an opportunity to play baseball. Our fall season starts on September 10 and runs for the following four Saturdays until October 8.
Registration is now open I promise you that you will be hard-pressed to find a happier, more supportive environment. Games are played on a completely accessible field that supports athletes in wheelchairs and those who use assistive devices. For insight into the joy of Miracle League, feel free to check out a video recapping previous seasons.
The cost to play for the season is $50; scholarships are also available by emailing info@miracleleaguenorthbay.org. Minimum age to play is 5 years and there is no age limit. We ask that volunteers be at least 12 years old and we encourage groups and teams to volunteer together!
This year Penngrove will be working with Safe Routes to School, a Sonoma County initiative to get students and families to walk, bike, roller skate, etc., to school in order to increase daily movement, encourage environmental awareness and improve traffic situations at schools. We know this has been a challenge at Penngrove due to the nature of the roads surrounding our school, so we are going to be taking a look at any and all small, or even big, improvements we can make to support these efforts at our site. Safe Routes to School offers monthly challenges, in which students can submit their work and win prizes, family bike workshops, classroom education and more! We are very excited to be partnering with this incredible program this year!
