The 'What's What' in the Hero Underground
166 Days Down...14 days to Go
ELA: Students will take an Abbreviations Assessment on Monday, May 16th. The review for that assessment will take place in class- but students have been practicing this material since before Milestones. Additionally, students will double up their efforts to complete their YAP Book in order to have their books completed by the YAP Book Presentation. Students will be presenting their YAP Books on Friday, May 13th- parents are welcome to attend. Additionally, there will be check out sheets available at the presentation so after the presentation, parents are welcome to check their student out! Lastly, students will take a Revise and Edit Assessment on Wednesday, May 18th.
Math: AM Math: We have completed our Measurement Unit and will be taking our test on Tuesday, May 17th. Students were given study guides today and we completed the first five problems together in class. This assessment WILL be the LAST assessment of the year for AM Math, so please make sure that your student is practicing at home for at least 30 minutes every day leading up to the assessment. For students who are borderline A/B or B/C, this can help their grade immensely.
PM Math: Students will begin their Unit 3 Multiplication and Division of Decimals study today. Unfortunately, given the time crunch to get this unit taught by the end of the year (and allow students the opportunity to recover the assessment if needed), the Math/Science Team has decided to give the assessment Friday, May 20th. Please know that I am well aware that this test is coming quickly after the last one- but we have to test the kids on this material prior to them leaving 4th Grade. This will be the last testing opportunity for the kids to pull their grades up, so it is imperative that they practice every night. For our purposes, I will allow the standard algorithm so that they learn the material quickly. I will try to get the study guide out to you tomorrow- I just need to verify with the Math/Science Team which one we would like to use.
Science: Students will be taking place in STEM Activities over the next two weeks! This week, we will be creating Pom Pom Launchers, Straw Simple Machines, and Marble Mazes. We are still collecting Toilet Paper Rolls (we need about 160 for each group to get about 5-6 toilet paper rolls) and masking tape (even if the roll is partially used). I personally purchased a great deal of the supplies that we will need this week- but it does get costly to purchase supplies for both classes. I am really excited to do these projects with the kids- they really were excited to build Marshmallow Towers last week!

Ms. Crowder and I are beyond blessed to have had the opportunity to work with you and your student this year.
