Principal's Message
As you may know, several schools in Rincon Valley have had various levels of remodeling to their campuses. To improve our campus in recent years Sequoia has had a new play structure and lunch area installed, as well as air conditioning and new roofing completed this last summer. We are now looking at more improvements including security fencing, a new track and field and the possible addition of a new building for music or upper grade classrooms to replace portables. In January we will hold an informational meeting to discuss phase 1 and 2 of the remodel process at Sequoia. This will be a great opportunity to hear more details as well as give input about the exciting improvements that will be happening on our campus in the coming years. Please be on the lookout for that in January.
At the SPC meeting last week I shared Sequoia's progress on the California Dashboard. The Dashboard is a powerful tool to help districts and schools identify strengths and challenges and pinpoint student groups that may be struggling. I'm happy to report that we made great growth last year! Even with 11 days of lost instruction due to the fires, our teachers made wise choices about curriculum and students worked extremely hard and showed incredible resilience. We showed growth in both math and language arts and ranked "high" overall as a school. One area of challenge that we are addressing this year is helping our English learners to meet or exceed standards on the end of year state test. Although our English learners are making great gains on their English language proficiency assessments, they are still struggling with the complexity of the state test. If you'd like to look at our results on the Dashboard yourself, please follow the link below the principal's message.
We have had a wonderful week of orchestra and band performances this week! It is amazing to see so many student musicians learning and excelling in their music classes. Thank you to our music teachers for all their work in the classroom with our students and to you for supporting our music program at home! We can see that the learning and practice is paying off!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the time with your family and friends. Please remember that school will resume on Tuesday, January 8th.
