November 16, 2020 - MRMS Parent Newsletter 5
MRMS Families,
Welcome to the first week of Quarter 2! With one fourth of the school year under our belts, students and families are likely finding themselves in a school based routine that we hope feels comfortable under the current circumstances in 2020. The beginning of a new quarter means a fresh start for gradebooks, and an anticipation of quarter 1 report cards. For fifth grade students, the first report card is always exciting as this is their first opportunity to earn letter grades. I advise all families to take time to review report cards carefully with your students. Consider the areas of celebration, and areas of improvement or growth. As always, we recommend that you reach out to your child’s teachers if you have any questions, or need additional support. We believe that students will be more successful with a strong partnership between home and school. Report cards will be emailed to families this Friday.
Have a great week!
In partnership,
Adam O'Shea. Principal Monomoy Middle School
Announcements
Additional Communication for Distance Learning Families: This week there is additional information headed to the inbox of our wonderful and supportive distance learning families. Please be sure to read the contents of both newsletters to stay up to date on all things MRMS.
Calling in for Absent Students: Please make sure that adult caregivers are in charge of calling the school to report a students absence. While we encourage students to communicate with their teachers if they are out and need to make up work, we are only able to excuse the absence with a call from an adult.
Intermural Soccer: Soccer continues to be a great success! If you are unsure about your next scheduled soccer date, click here!
Flu Shots: By the end of the calendar year students must have flu shot with documentation provided to the school (per Massachusetts Department of Public Health). There are a number places to get your child's flu shot including; from your primary care physician, CVS, Stop & Shop Pharmacy, STAR Market Pharmacy. Thank you to the more than 300 families that have already provided the flu shot documentation to the nurse's office. Kudos to you, your child may go to school in January!
MRMS School Store: The holidays are around the corner, as is the colder weather... A good time to grab some Monomoy Merch.
Cold Weather is Here! Please make sure that in person learners are coming prepared to go outside for fresh air, even as the weather gets colder. We are also ensuring air circulation within the building by keeping windows open, and so it is a great idea to be dressing in layers.
Subs Needed: If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, or substitute assistant please inquire with Ms. Ellen Bearse from Human Resources. They have recently made this a more lucrative endeavor. Also, we would really appreciate it! Ellen's email ebearse@monomoy.edu
Principals' Forum: This month's principals' forum will be hosted afterschool. Drop-in and ask questions. The meeting date is scheduled for November 23rd from 4:00 pm- 5:00 pm at this link.
