Shark "Shout Outs" (SSO's) - MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People here!
I just wanted to share with you an awesome moment for presented to me by students Shane R, Brandon R, Brendan P, Rory F. They surprised me yesterday with a cake for my birthday and the staff could not express enough how it was the students idea. I was in the room and I cant even explain how they worked together to hide it and keep me unaware of what they were doing.
I can't express enough how this made me feel as a teacher new to them and the care/concern they showed for my birthday. These are fine young men and they are in great hands at this school.
Mr. Herring
Shark Shout-Out to Nick Selfe- Alt Ed program. Congrats go out to Nick as one of our most improved students. He has also taken on leadership roles within his classroom.
Jon Bennett
Shark Shout Out!
The internship program run by Ms. Gao was gracious enough to offer the office not one but TWO interns who help out during E block. So far the capable volunteers have helped with labeling, filing, copying, random errands, receiving drop offs, organizing paperwork, and courteously welcome a plethora of Monomoy visitors by greeting them through the intercom/video monitor. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn everything new is a huge asset to the busy workplace. Major kudos to Junior Marissa Smith and Senior Regine Lespinasse!
Ms. Ferro, Ms. Hooper & Ms. Kelly
Shark shout out to Mr. Peter Moynagh and Ms. Angela Chilaka for helping students in my Community Internship course land their preferred position at Harwich business community. Without them making phone calls to various local businesses, it is hard for me to know where to begin, as I've only been living in Eastham full-time since last fall. Thank you very much!
Ms. Gao
Shark Shout Out to:
(1) members of the GSA for rocking the Club Fair, surprising me with their thoughtfulness and caring, and generally being fabulous!
(2) Liz Hoff for modeling her ASPEN page set up for me. I have been using her model and I like it!
(3) Dustan Burns for helping me out with organization!
(4)Karen Manning for always being prepared and helping me with the use of her technical writing rubric.
Ms. Dietz
Big thank you to our MRHS kids for helping me raise close to $200 for the ALS Family Charitable Foundation. In addition, two wonderful teachers, Rachel Barnes and Angie Chilaka, donated generously to this worthwhile cause.
The next important fundraiser will support our school’s Young Women’s Club and their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team! Look out for Ms. Chilaka’s students, Mrs. Doyle, Mrs. Gleason, and members of the YWC during the month of October as they raise money for the Making Strides Walk on Oct. 18 in Barnstable. Breast Cancer is an epidemic in our Monomoy community! Help us control it!
Many thanks to the Friends of Pleasant Bay for their generous grant to our Creative Writing classes and club, Sandscript. Our writers will have a chance to visit Pleasant Bay, write poetry and prose about what they see and experience, sketch or photograph their surroundings, and eventually publish a booklet about the Bay that will be freely available in our town libraries and chambers of commerce. It will also, of course, be available in our school district libraries.
Ms. Forte-Doyle
A BIG SHARK SHOUT-OUT to Miranda Trieble from Ms. Girolamo for Miranda taking the initiative to “step up to the plate” to ensure that our school continues to be the safe, happy, welcoming home-away-from-home environment we all want it to be !! Thanks Miranda !!
Shark Shout out to Superintendent Carpenter for providing the time for our staff to weigh in on the Strategic Plan draft. A special shout out to staff members Ms. Barnes, Mr. Martin, Ms. Wheaton, Mr. Houston, Mr. Hoffman-Terry and Ms. Donovan for attending. An in-depth conversation about our school, vision and student learning/expectations was enjoyable.
Mr. Burkhead
Here is the quote from the education coordinator at the Edward M Kennedy Institute about the Monomoy students who visited last Friday: "Our volunteers noted that these were the nicest group of kids to ever visit. The woman at the door said more of these kids either thanked her or said have a nice day than any group ever before." Great job AP US History students! That's the way to represents us! Shout out by Mr. Bates & Mr. Houston
ALP students welcomed Diane DiGennaro, President of the Harwich Garden Club as a mentor for a partnership project to beautify our school. After cleaning up the weeds from the courtyard the ALP students are looking at ways to improve the area further.

Substance Abuse Prevention Resources for Families
Substance Abuse Prevention
Substance abuse awareness is the first step in keeping your kids smart and safe with alcohol and drugs. Talking about alcohol and drugs is the next step. It is more difficult and more important than simply learning about the risks involved with substance. Although it seems like your kids aren’t listening, what you say significantly influences their thinking and actions. For more information:
