NOONGAR SEASON OF DJERAN (APR-MAY)
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Thank you to all our parents and children in their return to Term 2. It has been great getting around to see all the children and hear about their adventures over the school holidays. To the credit of all families, the return has been smooth and the majority of children have transitioned back to classroom routines very smoothly. A thank you to parents also for the uniform transition into Winter requirements. The children look very smart!

Welcome to the new families who have joined our school community including:
Orlando Von Kruger (4B) and Marie Claire Von Kruger (6B)

We hope all the children and families have felt welcomed and transitioned smoothly to their new school!
TERM 2 UNIFORMS
Speaking of Winter uniform, the two-week changeover period concludes tomorrow. All children will be expected to be in Winter Uniform as of Monday. The uniform shop is open each Monday from 2:30 - 3:30 to support any families wishing to purchase items. You can also order directly through JFE. Please see the details below. As mentioned, if there are any issues with uniform requirements, please advise the classroom teacher.
KINDY 2024 ENROLMENTS
If you have a child born between 1 July 2019 - June 30 2020, they are eligible for our Kindy Program in 2024. Places are filling very quickly and we have limited spaces left. If you have a sibling or family you know of wishing to enrol and have yet to inform the office, please contact Deb at the office to complete an application form or visit our website. Interviews will take place for all siblings and new children throughout the remainder of Term 2.
ANZAC DAY LITURGY
Our Year 4 children coordinated a very respectful and reverent Anzac Day liturgy last Wednesday afternoon. The Honourable Tracey Roberts, Federal Member for Pearce also addressed our children and shared some of the history of families who have fought for our country in the Wanneroo electorate. She also took the opportunity to present a new Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag to our school community. These are proudly flying on our flagpoles outside the library.
MOTHER'S DAY BREAKFAST - FRIDAY 12th MAY
With Mothers' Day approaching on Sunday the 14th May, we are inviting all our Mothers, Step-Mothers and Mother figures (whether that be Dad's or grandparents) to celebrate with a Mothers' Day Morning Tea. To help with catering, we are asking that you please RSVP via the link below. A note was also sent home asking parents to RSVP with details of the event. The Year 1 children will be presenting a Mothers' Day Themed assembly following classroom visits!

Thanks to our P&F, the Mothers' Day Stall will also take place next Wednesday 10th May in the hall. Information has been sent via Facebook Class Pages as well as a note home regarding the purchasing of gifts.
IMCC BURSARY APPLICATIONS - CLOSE FRI 12th MAY
A reminder to parents of all Year 6 children that Irene McCormack Catholic College offers a St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School bursary for Year 7 2024. The successful recipient of the bursary receives financial support towards IMCC school fees. The purpose of the bursary is to provide financial support to a family who would otherwise not be able to access a secondary education at IMCC due to school fees. If you believe you would benefit from this opportunity, please see the application form below from IMCC. An interview and selection process will be undertaken for all applicants.
NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY - FRI 19th MAY
Thanks to the resounding response to our National Ride to School Day, we have secured a 4-week Bike Education Program for our Year 6 children later this term. On the back of this success, Mrs Kavanagh our resident Sustainability and Grants Coordinator, is launching the National Walk Safely to School day on Friday 19th May. This is another community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children. For more information, please see the flyer below and get those fresh walking shoes on!
For those parents who make use of child restraints and car seats for younger siblings, there is also some information attached regarding the National Road Safety Awareness week. Kidsafe WA will be presenting parent workshops at both Clarkson and Yanchep library. Please see the attached below for more information.

A list of all events for Term 2 is attached below for your reference. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
MAY - Month of Mary
May is traditionally dedicated in a special way to honouring and seeking the intercession of Mary as the Mother of God and Mother of the Church.
The tradition of dedicating the month of May to Mary, came about in the 13th century. The reason is the fact that this month is the time when spring is at the height of its beauty. Spring is also connected with nature renewing itself. In her way, Mary gave new life to the world when she gave birth to our saviour Jesus Christ.
Devotion to Mary is one important part of the Catholic identity.
As our mother she is an example of a committed “Yes” to the will of God. Because of the devotion to her many people ask her for help in the most difficult moments of their life as any child does with his mother.
Our Mayflower Mass on Sunday 28th May, celebrates and venerates Mary as Mother of Jesus, and Mother of the Church.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION (FIRST EUCHARIST) See dates picture attached.
Preparations are under way for students mostly in Year 4 to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Please be aware of the commitments you are required to attend in support of your child. Commitment Masses for First Holy Communion:

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
It was great to hear about all the travels and adventures our children experienced over the holidays. I was particularly impressed by Jedd Hitchcock from 1B, who shared his love of wakeboarding whilst at a lake over the break. Jedd has a penchant for watersports and as you can see from the photo - is quite the wakeboarder! Keep throwing those sick turns, Jedd!
If your child has an interest or hobby you would like to share with the community, please feel free to email me details or a pic. It is a great opportunity to celebrate the talents of our children outside of a school classroom!
