JW Killam Principal's Corner
Ms. Leveque's Weekly Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Leveque
Many of you have had the opportunity to meet and welcome Ms. Maglio in our front office. Her work, along with Mrs. Callahan and Mrs. Iozzo is critical in helping us be successful at Killam. In many ways, the office is the heart of the school and our staff do an incredible job supporting our students and families!
The office is also an incredibly busy place! Each day, we make sure all students are accounted for, prepare lunch orders, follow-up with teachers and families regarding changes in dismissal, make sure each classroom has not only the materials but the staff that it needs, and answer an ever ringing phone. If you've ever seen it around 8:30 or 2:30, you know it is a place in constant motion! We love seeing and hearing from our families as it shows we are a true community. With that in mind, however, we ask that you please limit deliveries to students during the school day to only essential items, such as medication or lunches. We have many deliveries of library books, recess gear or clothing from parents. These deliveries cause disruptions to your child's learning. While we appreciate you looking out for your children, one of our core values is Responsibility and one way you can best support your child is helping them understand the natural consequences of forgetting something such as a library book and recess gear. As hard as this is, it's an important way to set your child up for future success!
Best,
Ms. Leveque

TRRFCC Assembly Time- We Need Your Help!
Thank you for sending in donations. We've had a steady stream of recycled materials donated and we still need your help! We are in need of supplies for our TRRFCC classes. We have not yet filled a teacher's request. To better support this effort, a member of our PTO graciously agreed to create a sign-up genius with our wish list. You can access the sign-up genius list here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0949adae2daafb6-trrfcc. If you are able to donate supplies, please send them in with your child in a bag marked with the teacher's name that is noted on the sign-up genius. This will help us get the materials into the correct hands (Please note that our TRRFCC time will be cross grade-level groupings so that our students can interact with peers in the larger community. Although a teacher's name is attached to a supply list, it is most likely that your child will interact with these materials throughout the rotations.). Every little bit helps and these supplies should take us through the school year! Thank you in advance for taking care of our students and helping us promote the joy in our learning!
A Note from Our Nurse
Thank you for sending in donations of leggings and sweatpants. I appreciate all of the contributions!
If your student is in grades 3 – 5, please send in the documentation from their most recent physical exam for their health record.
Also, please pack nutritious snacks every day. Great choices include fresh fruits or veggies that naturally contain immune boosting vitamins, or whole grain crackers and cheese which provide energy and protein. As always, please check ingredients so we can protect our students with food allergies.
Thank you,
Mrs. Grottkau

MCAS Results
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has released district and school level accountability and performance results for the MCAS 2019. Click here to download the Assistant Superintendent's report on Reading Public Schools. I am reviewing these results and planning Killam's next steps related to this information. I will share a report on this with the school community in the coming weeks.
