Weekly Update- September 14, 2018

No school Wednesday, September 19th

Week at a Glance

Reading- This week we’ve focused on Character Traits and finding text evidence to support our thinking. Kindness week has really helped facilitate the conversation. We discussed characters in our book who would set a good example for kindness week, and those who wouldn’t.

Math- We are still in unit 1 and let me tell you, I have been so impressed with the flexible thinking and variety of strategies students are using to solve problems. Next week will apply our learning to a context with story problems.

Writing- Next week we will celebrate all the awesome informational writing we’ve done. I am so impressed with the quantity and quality of writing that I’m seeing.

Science/Social Studies- This week during our social studies time, we focused on kindness activities and what it looks like to be kind. Next week we will begin talking about food security and foods that grow in Ohio. This will help set the stage for the “Food Security” design challenge that I discussed at curriculum night.

**Although ALEKS isn't on the math section, I am totally fine with your child doing ALEKS for 20 minutes in place of one of the other activities.**
