Week of 12-17-18
The Last Week of 2018!
It is the week before Christmas and all through the school, staff is working hard to keep their cool!
This week is always a bit crazy as the kids are over excited, we all are ready for a break to be with our families and celebrate the holiday season, and......it's a full moon on the 22nd!
While we spend each day keeping our students focused on what we need to do, try to enjoy some of the fun with them as this time of year brings a special vibe throughout the building. Watch the magic of the season through their eyes as and let your inner child play along with them a bit.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break! This first half of the school year has moved by faster than any other year I can remember. My you have time to relax and spend with your family, friends, or just quiet time to unwind from the busy start to the year. You all are special people, doing great work every day, and deserve a happy holiday season!
Have a great break and Happy New Year!

Hamlin Help
From Stacey Gierman
Good Monday Morning!
I am still in need of volunteers for our Hamlin Holiday. I only have half of my drivers and half of my wrappers needed to make this successful!
If you have not done so already, please forward this email to your staff.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!!
Good Morning,
Thank you to those that volunteered to deliver Thanksgiving dinner to our families in need. I have received all positive feedback!
Now I need some Christmas volunteers! For those of you that have helped in the past, we have wrapped gifts a week before delivering. This allowed me time to go shopping for what was still needed to provide these families with the best possible holiday.
This year we have a conflict and will be wrapping the DAY BEFORE we deliver! This is OK….we can do it! Here’s what I need:
30 volunteers to WRAP on Saturday, December 22nd at NOON at Hamlin Pub (25 and Van Dyke). As in the past, wrappers should bring their own supplies: wrapping paper, tape, scissors, and a black sharpie. Space is limited at Hamlin as they are open for business. This is not an event for small children to attend with you. Thank you for understanding.
10 volunteers to SHOP on Saturday, December 22nd at 1:30 PM. You will meet me at Hamlin. I will give you a specific shopping list. Most likely you will either be sent to Target or Kohls. You will go buy what is on the list and return it to Hamlin. You will be reimbursed on the spot. We will get the gifts wrapped and added to the appropriate families. If you have a 30% Kohls coupon please bring it!
25 volunteers to DELIVER Christmas gifts and dinner to our families on Sunday, December 23rd at 3pm. Show up at Hamlin Pub (25 and Van Dyke) at 3pm. We will have elves available to load your sleigh and get you on your way! The families will all be contacted by their school buildings letting them know their delivery will arrive between 3-4pm.
The volunteers that I need this year are less and there is a GREAT reason for this. More than half of our families were adopted out this year! Individual families, school groups and businesses picked families this year! It’s going to be our best year ever!!!
If you can assist us, please email me directly. Please be specific as to which of the 3 above you are volunteering for.

$200 Teacher Spending
To spend the money, you can provide an order with the items you would like and we can create a Purchase Order (PO) to send in the order. Two first grade teachers found some great items on Really Good Stuff, and a coupon code to get even more as they were on sale! Many of the items met IRP needs.
If you spend money out of your pocket, you would need to submit the receipt for reimbursement through your paycheck. This will not cover taxes paid, so please check with the main office regarding tax exempt purchases.
We have PO vendors such as: Office Depot, School Specialty, Really Good Stuff, Lakeshore Learning, Oriental Trading, and more.
Questions, let me know.
UCS Writing Rubric Score Entry
Shared Excel File
You should have received an email from me about a shared file from OneDrive. This file is the new recording system for our fall writing assessments as Data Director is no longer available.
To record your writing scores, open the shared file, find the tab with your name on it, enter scores for your students. Your Excel tab should be pre-populated with your students' names already there.
Questions or problems, please let me know.
Winter NWEA
- Winter NWEA Testing
All elementary students will participate in the winter NWEA assessment. The winter assessment window for K-3 Reading runs from Thursday, January 3 till Thursday, January 24. The winter assessment window for 4-6 Reading, K-6 Math and 3-6 Science runs from Thursday, January 3 till Friday, February 1, 2019.
Students in grades K - 2nd will need one 50-minute period for Reading and another 50-minute period for Mathematics. Students in grades 3rd – 6th will need three 60-minute periods in order to complete the Reading, Science, and Mathematics assessments. Testing should follow district testing protocols. Through collaboration with your teachers, a testing schedule should be created.
Multiple support documents are located in the Curriculum Common folder under NWEA to assist in setting up test sessions, proctoring tips, and reporting resources. It is highly recommended that teachers review these support documents prior to administering the assessments.
Prior to testing, please confirm that computers being utilized for NWEA testing have the lock-down browser and are fully charged. Please launch the browser to ensure that the student log in page appears. If this does not occur, please contact the help desk.
