Weekly Update

From the Desk of the Principal

January 8, 2021

Dear Masconomet Middle School families,

We have completed our first week of the New Year! You should have just received an email from our Yearbook Advisor, Ms. Malinowski, about ordering the 2020/2021 yearbook. We hope that you decide to buy one this year! I have a few updates to share with you.

Upcoming Calendar Dates

  • January 18- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day- No school
  • January 22- Early Release for all students-11:30
  • January 25- Staff Work Day- No School

Mask Breaks

Mask breaks will continue outside through the winter season. Please make sure that your students wear appropriate cold weather clothing to school to be outside for 10 minutes.

Flu Immunization Requirement

The MDPH Immunization Division had set the deadline of December 31, 2020 for students to receive a flu vaccination unless they have obtained a medical or religious exemption. The deadline has been extended through February 28, 2021.

Remote Learning Expectations

As a reminder, please review the Masconomet Remote Learning Expectations with your student again. I have received many questions this week about the use of device cameras while at home. The expectation is that cameras are turned on to begin class and for attendance. This is mandatory and unless directed by the teacher to turn off cameras, they should remain on for class. Students whose cameras remain turned off in class without permission will be referred to the Assistant Principal, Mr. Monagle.

Winter Food Drive

Faculty, staff and students plan to launch a food drive to support local food pantries. The problem of food insecurity has been exacerbated by the pandemic, and the need is great outside of the holiday season as well. More information will be forthcoming, and we will be accepting drop offs outside from remote only students.

Have a good weekend,

Phil McManus
