A Message From Mrs. Burko
We are the start of another exciting week.
Last week I had the privilege to visit many of our classrooms. Students were engaged and learning. Transformations in Math, Constitution day in Social Studies, properties of water in Science, fashioning pots in Art, improve in Theater and so much more! I'm sure this week will bring many more opportunities for us to Connect. Create and Cultivate with our community.
Wishing you all an amazing week.
Best,
Mrs. April Burko
Principal

Our first curbside pickup was a success!
We checked out dozens of books and had the pleasure of seeing some of our students.
We will continue curbside as long as schools are closed.
How does curbside pickup work?
Step 1: Student searches the online catalog for titles. They will sign in and place the books on hold.
Step 2: Ms Steele and Ms Martinez will collect the books. Students will receive an email notification when books are ready for pickup.
Step 3: Come by the school Wednesdays from 1-3pm. When you arrive at the bus circle, we will be waiting with your books set out on a table. You can also return any books from school, not just library books.
The library website has a slideshow with more details, along with a tutorial video with step-by-step directions.
Public Library Ebooks/Audiobooks
The district has a partnership with the Chapel Hill Public Library and Orange County Public Libraries for access to ebooks. Students can use the digital libraries for both by logging in with a student number and PIN. Here is a video tutorial on how this service works. In case the PIN for signin does not work, call the public library to ask for a PIN reset. (919-968-2777)
We can’t wait to see you on Wednesdays!
NC Check-in Testing
Students will be taking the NC Check-In which serves as our district benchmarks). These tests will happen virtually for students during the testing window of October 5th through October 23rd. Important to note:
- All students will take the Reading Check-In.
- All students will take the Math Check-In that aligns with their current math placement, except Math 1 students. ** (Math 1 students will take their Math Check-In in December)
- 8th Graders ONLY will take their Science Check-In
More information will specific details will be coming soon!
Free and Reduced Lunch
We want to ensure our students have access to healthy and nutritious meals. If your family has not already completed the 2020-2021 school year online Free and Reduced Price Meal Application, please click here to apply. A new application has to be submitted each year.
While paper applications are available, the online application is by far the most accurate and efficient method to apply for free and reduced meals. The online application can be processed within 48 hours of completion. We highly encourage our CHCCS families to take advantage of the quick and simple application process. Additionally, if additional P-EBT funds are released in the future, they will be based on this meal application.
For more information regarding Free and Reduced Meal Price Applications please contact the School Nutrition office at 919-967-8211, ext. 28270 or by email at dkoonce@chccs.k12.nc.us.
Reminder: iReady Diagnostic THIS WEEK!
Students need to log in through Clever, use earbuds or a headset during testing, use the speaker read aloud for math AND paper and pencil.
Remember, results from the diagnostic will help teachers provide the best support for students. Therefore, its important that students complete the diagnostic without support.
