Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Russ Booth

January 2, 2023

Good evening MHS families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and a good start to the new year! While I am sure everyone could use a few more days of rest, I am excited to see everyone at school tomorrow. Prior to break, we welcomed classes from the Robinson and J/J for our annual Caroling at Home concerts. Our Best Buddies club also held a movie night where they enjoyed Home Alone. Due to the unexpected school closure Friday before break we missed out on our last spirit day, but I'm sure everyone enjoyed the early start to the break!

Please take a look at some of the information below, and we will be sure to have further updates in next week's newsletter as we move into the second half of the year.

SCOIR Post Secondary Planning Platform

MHS is pleased to announce that we are introducing a new system called Scoir (pronounced score) to help you and your student navigate the post secondary planning process. The Class of 2023 will be the last class to use Naviance.

On Monday, December 12th MHS students in grades 9-11 will be given access to Scoir to set up their account. Students can decide to invite their parents/guardians to their account. As a parent or guardian, you would be able to view their profiles, interest inventory results, see their college list, conduct your own college searches, and suggest colleges for your student to consider. Scoir also provides parents with financial tools so that you can get a better sense of the cost of attendance at various colleges during the selection process.

We are excited to be able to provide Scoir to our students and families, and we feel confident that you will find it helpful and easy to use.

Various Vaping Resources

In an effort to combat the ongoing challenge of vaping within our school (and others), please take a look at and utilize the various resources provided below to learn more about vaping in order to start/continue the conversation with your child. Making progress in this area is a group effort, and we want to provide support for families at home with these resources.

Prom Update

We recently received a call from Gillette Stadium regarding their updated event schedule. They informed us that our original prom date of May 6th has been bumped for event purposes, and we want to communicate the new date as quickly as possible in order for everyone to plan accordingly moving forward.

We have rescheduled the prom for juniors and seniors to Friday, May 26th 2023 from 6-10pm.
