April 2021

A Note from Dr. Reynolds

It was so wonderful to see our families at the Fun Run yesterday.

We are very excited about the last 9 weeks and the plan of allowing our wonderful WBE families on campus for specific events. We have been given permission to have a few events for the end of the school year. I wanted to share our plan with you and expectations for each event. Please see the list below for parent events as we begin to open up events and celebrate the end of they school year.

Fifth grade program- students will be able to bring 2 guests per student. If you bring a sibling they will count as a guest. This will be recorded and families will be able to share with all those who couldn’t attend.

Field Day- families can join us outside for field day

Last Day celebrations and 5th grade graduations - 5the grade graduation will be limited to 2 family members. All other grades will be limited to 2 per student for any indoor event. Local mandates or district mandates regarding masks will be followed if applicable at the time of the event.

Burrus Side Kicks

Next year we will be opening our own before and after care program. We have enjoyed our partnership with the YMCA. We realize that many of you use that YMCA for your children for before and after school care. Our daycare will run the same hours. We will be sending out more information sometime nest week. We are excited about this opportunity to put the proceeds back into our school therefore benefiting our students.

Mustang Mad Dash

We had a blast at the Fun Run. We loved seeing all of our families and we are so happy it worked out to have an outside run. Thank you for your support for your child and our school.

5th Grade Dedication

We are excited to honor our 5th grade students that have been at WBE since kindergarten. They are the first class to go all the way through. It's hard to believe it has been 6 years. We will have pavers and a ceremony to recognize these students. More information to come.

We are so excited to be adding house shout-outs to our program! Teachers write shout-outs to students going above and beyond. Every Wednesday, a shout-out is chosen from each house. The students get to come to the front office and spin a wheel of house points on the announcements. Here are our exceptional students that have earned house points for their teams so far.

STEM Update

STEM Family Week

STEM family week was a big success. We loved seeing all the kids bring in their artifacts they created with their families. We hope you enjoyed this activity as much as we did. We had a few families create a video of their challenge. Below is the link to see them.

STEM Challenge Highlights

Kindergarten students completed their project based learning activity today! In Wit and Wisdom, they have been reading storybooks and informational texts about animals on the farm, such as The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, and The Year at Maple Hill Farm. They went on a virtual field trip to the farm and got to visit the Hendersonville Police Station to learn about the horses and where they live. For their STEM project, they were asked to build a corral for their farm animals. Each corral had to open and close, include food and water for the animals, and be in the form of a shape. They did an amazing job!!!

1st Grade

First grade reviewed what it means when a material is transparent, translucent, or opaque. We looked at different materials in the classroom and categorized them. We made "stained glass" today for our challenge. Students used tissue paper and sticky paper to create a design. They can stick their creation to a window at home or on a window in the classroom.

Nurse Updates

Please continue to monitor your child and consult with your doctor for any symptoms of illness such as fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, new loss of taste and/or smell, vomiting or diarrhea. If your child has a fever >100, they must stay home and be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school. Also, as a reminder, if your child is tested for COVID-19, they must remain out of school until the test results come back. Please email or fax the results to me.

Thank you!
