Principal Message
For families who have children in 5th and 6th grades, or those who have incoming kindergarten students but do not live in our school boundaries, please be aware that Open Enrollment begins tomorrow, Monday, December 6th and the deadline to apply is January 21, 2022.
Pershing is a TK through 6th grade school. Once enrolled, students are automatically enrolled through 6th grade unless families make a different enrollment decision, were placed here temporarily due to an "overload" from another resident school, or were assigned our school for TK only.
For more information, go to Open Enrollment. Our next visitation tour for prospective families will be in person, outdoor, on January 11, 2022, at 8:45 am. Please call the Pershing school office to RSVP: 916-979-8076
- December 7, 2021, 9:00 am - 11:15 am & 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm (Visitation Day)
- December 8, 2021, 9:00 am - 11:15 am & 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm (Visitation Day)
The Rapid Learner Program is available to students in grades 2-5. Each classroom is self-contained which allows the students to spend the entire day with their cognitive peers.
For those interested in having their child apply and test for the Rapid Learner Program, we have visitations and tours (outdoor only) this month and next:
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kendra Shelton
Principal
If your child is absent:
As we move further into colder weather and typical cold season, please be aware that our COVID Protocols continue to remain the same. If your child is out for illness, please call the school and share with us the following information (which will save time calling us back and forth):
Student’s first and last name, grade, teacher’s name, date and reason for absence, guardian name, and your relationship to the student. If your child is ill, please provide information regarding your child’s symptoms. For example, please share if your child has respiratory symptoms, such as cough, congestion or difficulty breathing; gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, diarrhea or vomiting; if they have a fever with one or more of the following, body aches, or fatigue; a sore throat, or headache; loss of taste or smell; or other symptoms, such as a rash. When your child has improved, please be sure to review the COVID-19 Symptom Decision tree (see below) to determine next steps to return to school, or call our school office for support. COVID-19 rapid tests are provided free of charge through the school office before school daily for those registered. If your child is absent for another reason, please state the reason so we can determine if it is excused or unexcused. Lastly, if your child attends Discovery Club, you MUST call them also to report your child’s absence. Discovery Club’s phone number is 916-979-8293.
Parents who want to have their child tested for COVID-19 for free may register their child in advance: www.sanjuan.edu/preregister The test used currently by SJUSD is a rapid antigen test through Binax.
Thank you!
