Week 1 Term 4 SFDS Newsletter
St Francis de Sales - 19 October 2021
TRACY'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora Ano
Welcome back to our kura for what will most likely be a crazy, very busy term 4 and end of our 2021 learning year! It is always a blessing to see the smiling faces of our learners walking through our gates each morning – excitedly talking to their friends and making plans for the day to connect.
This time every year our fantastic teaching team start to collate assessment information and start to write reports as well as thinking about the year ahead – 2021. There is so much to think about and to do. As you all know we take learner placement extremely seriously and these on average can take 60+ hours of discussion, analysing and negotiation! As always we follow a very rigorous and comprehensive process to ensure that your taonga will be
supported and catered for in both their learning and wellbeing.
You will know that we consider many factors through this process and we ask that you, as whanau, support our professional judgement and decisions around class placements. And we thought that 2021 was going to be calm but again it has been a little left field! Madness – it has really encouraged us all to continue to build resilience and to continue to adapt to change. We ask that you positively support our teaching team and remember that these placements are designed to meet the needs of all our learners.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you and farewell to Rebecca Duncan and Therese Gravett. Both of these wonderful kaiako have resigned from their permanent teaching positions here at SFDS. Becky and Therese have both enjoyed their time on maternity leave with their tamariki and are excited about their new challenges. Thank you both for all the gifts and talents that you have contributed to our learners, staff and community…we have been very blessed.
Congratulations to the following students who received a values certificate at our school hui on the last day of Term 3:
Jasper L, Thea S, Portia SC, Nevaan P, Cameron S, Matthew S, Johnny W, Daniel H, Gabriella D, Andrey W, Molly B, Sam R, James B, Harry D.
Congratulations to Avila house who won the house cup for the most values cards earned and to Daksha A who won the draw for the Empire voucher.
Congratulations to Alice M who won the Principal's Cup.
In the last week of term 3 the top court turf was installed…it is just an amazing space for our learners to shoot hoops and play. Yesterday during breaks it was absolutely packed with our learners having an absolute ball! Check out the pictures!!
Our PSL really do an amazing job organising school and community fundraising events so that our learners can have the extras that are not funded by the Ministry.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you do for our learners and community.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our annual quiz night next Friday.
Please support our learners by selling/purchasing raffle tickets…our PSL have put together amazing prizes from the goods donated by our school and wider community. Thank you.
Have a wonderful week and take care.

A FANTASTIC ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Sponsor a table at the upcoming SFDS quiz night on Friday 29 October!
The cost of the sponsorship this year is $100-$150 for a table (small and large tables). You can decorate that table with whatever advertising paraphernalia you like or if you provide some business cards, logos, etc the PSL can set it up on a quiz table for you.
Your business name will be promoted on the night and your logo will appear on the promo
poster. So this is another great opportunity to get your name out in the community!
Note that cost of tickets to participate in the quiz are additional ($20 per person). We havent
allocated the tables out to teams as yet, so if you prefer to actually sit at the table you are
sponsoring, let me know and we'll see what we can do.
If your company is interested in sponsoring a table, then just let me know ASAP this week at
admin@zealinteriors.co.nz and we’ll get it underway.
Thanks
Pip Wenman and the PSL team
