Husky Happenings
April Newsletter
Husky Parents,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable spring break that allowed you special time with family and friends. Spring is here and excitement is in the air as we continue to have a wonderful year of learning here at Metzler. As we enter the month of April, our teachers and staff continue to introduce and review rigorous academic skills and content across all grade levels. As always, we greatly appreciate the combined efforts of all as we support our students in successfully meeting the highest of standards set before them!
We are proud of our students for working hard to reach their goals, and our teachers for meticulously preparing students by providing a very high caliber of teaching throughout the school year. Parent involvement comes in so many forms and is an essential factor in helping our students to be successful in school. We thank you for your support of our school community and your role in helping our children to meet with success.
As the most important adult in your child’s life it really will help if you use a Growth Mindset to support your child’s growth and development:
• Encourage your child to be curious, to experiment, to use their imagination and to be messy.
• Praise their hard work rather than the marks they get.
• Make it clear that being hard working and intellectually curious is cool.
• Praise them when they think for themselves, work well in teams, and change their
minds after thinking something through.
• Accept that failure is a really important part of learning.
• Encourage them to do activities such as writing, reading, watching fiction, solving
puzzles, exchanging cultural views and debating.
• Talk with teachers about support and opportunities rather than predictions.

We Met our Reading Goal!
STAAR ... We've Got This!
With roughly 3 weeks remaining before our STAAR testing begins, it is important that our students are present each day and eager to actively participate in applying the purposeful teaching and learning taking place. Please make sure your child is on time to school those days, has plenty of rest at night, and eats a healthy breakfast. All of our students and teachers have worked diligently to prepare your child for this test. We want our students to “show what they know."
Thank you in advance for understanding our efforts to provide the best testing environment for our students. We ask that you not deliver lunches to any student (K-5) after 8:00 a.m., and that you not visit the cafeteria for breakfast or lunch on testing days. We look forward to having you visit on non-testing days.

Campus Saftey
During the month of April we will have a fire and a lockdown drill. Students will not be aware that we are having the lockdown drill. It's mainly for the training of faculty and staff.
Parents and family members are always welcome to attend events at Metzler. It is important that you present a valid U.S. driver’s license or U.S. identification card in the front office before proceeding to the cafeteria, performance or instructional area. At that point, a visitor’s badge will be processed for you to wear while you are in the building. This process is in place for the safety of our children.
Parental Responsibility - Custody
Attendance Matters!
Good attendance is of prime importance for the educational development of each student. Please be mindful to send either a doctor or parent note within five days of an absence. The date(s) of the student’s absences should be included in the signed parent excuse. Please note that parental phone calls cannot take the place of these notes. Please see the KISD Elementary Student Handbook for more information regarding attendance.

Pennies for Patients Update!
Thank you for allowing our Huskies to show their generous spirit. We collected $2249.94 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma’s Pennies for Patients drive. Students brought their piggy bank, tooth fairy, and birthday money to support the cause. Mrs. Meredith’s first grade class will have an Olive Garden luncheon next month for giving the most in donations. Congratulations!
