Something to HOOT about!
Ms. Cipriano's Newsletter- Week of September 16th
Weekly Academics
ELA: We continued learning about transportation and the different ways in which students get to school. We used our question of the week, “How do children get to school?” to guide our discussions. We even took part in a bar graph project in which we counted the different ways our classmates get to school. We continued to learn about letters A-E.
The students continued practicing reading and writing the high-frequency words, I and am. We created and read sentences that encompassed these words. They have been learning about reading strategies such as pointing to each word as they read the sentence. They know that their reading finger helps them read the words from left to right. As the students begin to write sentences, they are learning about how words are separated by spaces and that sentences end with a period. We also read many exciting books this week in class. Some of our favorites are The Little School Bus, The Crayon Box that Talked and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
MATH: This week in math we learned how to count, read, and write numbers 1-5. The students practiced identifying sets of numbers by using our math manipulatives. They learned that as they count, the last number said, is the number they have altogether.
S.S./SCIENCE: We learned about Constitution day this week and made a connection to our own classroom charter.
SEL: As we continue to develop a positive classroom community, the students and I have engaged in a meaningful conversation about how we want to feel happy and safe in school. Each day we gather as a class and place ourselves somewhere on the Mood Meter depending on how we feel.
Mrs. Slappay and I had a wonderful time meeting you last night. We are very excited about all we have planned for your child this year, and look forward to working with you as well.
