~I have been teaching at the Hubbs Center since 2004.

~I teach English and job classes.
Do you have a favorite class to teach?
~ The job classes are a lot of fun to teach because students set clear goals and the classes help them make progress toward those goals.
~I enjoy spending time with my family, reading books, and walking my dog.
~Set goals, make a plan to reach your goals, and be patient.
Consider a New Class: Building Maintenance!
The Building Maintenance class prepares people for janitorial, custodial, and customer service work in a variety of settings. Learners will:
- Build vocabulary and skills related to building maintenance, customer service, workplace safety, and security
- Develop Speaking, Listening, and Reading skills for entry level and advanced jobs in building maintenance and customer service
- Earn OSHA 10 Certificate for Industrial Safety
- Have access to a Counselor who will help with applying for jobs with Marsden, St. Paul Pubilc Schools, or other companies
Requirements:
- ELL Learners Level A at CASAS 196 and higher
- Desire to work in Building Maintenance or Customer Service
What Happens After the Class?
Upon successful completion of this course, students may have the opportunity to interview for jobs with Marsden, St. Paul Public Schools, and other companies.
Students can take our free Low Pressure Boilers License class at the Hubbs Center to receive a MN State license for operation and maintenance of a Low Pressure Boiler. Click here to learn more about our free Low Pressure Boilers License class.

Consider a New Class: Introduction to Small Business!
Introduction to Small Business is a course designed to help students understand the basics of operating a small business. Students will write a business plan, research and design what it takes to start your own business. Meet with small business owners from our community through field trips and guest speakers. Build customer service skills through operating on site coffee cart.
Neighborhood Development Association and Goodwill EasterSeals are partnering programs who will support students in their pursuit to small business ownership.
Requirments:
- 10 week commitment to the class
- One of the following Reading test scores:
- TABE 404-535
- ELL B who are CASAS 221+
The course is designed with these criteria:
- 80% grade on quizzes and tests
- Portfolio completion
- Classroom participation including working the school store

Consider a New Class: Medical Office Preparation!
Medical Office Preparation (MOP) is a hybrid learning class. Hybrid learning means that students meet in class, face-to-face, with a teacher and other students part of the time – the rest of the course work is completed online via distance learning - outside of class, independently, or in a lab with some help from a tutor.
Students in this class work toward meeting the following goals:
- Identify a medical office career path
- Strengthen academic reading/writing skills
- Develop professional communication skills
- Master basic medical terminology
- Develop basic computer skills
- Prepare for the Accuplacer college entrance exam
- Complete steps to transition to college and work
Students will prepare for entry-level office jobs and/or post-secondary education in the healthcare field. Students who complete this class typically continue on to other areas of study including health unit coordinator or medical billing and coding.
Requirements:
- One of the following Reading test scores:
- ELL C (CASAS 185/188, 225+) or above
- TABE 11/12 M 442+
- Able to pass a background test
Requirements for successful completion of the class:
- Attend 80% of classes
- Complete all assigned work
- Achieve 80% on all online quizzes

Union Gospel Mission - - On November 22 and 23, community members in need who have registered beforehand, will be able to pick up a free bag of Thanksgiving food including a frozen turkey, potatoes, and non-perishables at the Men’s Campus located at 435 University Ave E in Saint Paul. The White Bear Area Food Shelf will be having our Give a Gobble, Annual Turkey Drive. Registration opens on Thursday, November 4th . Coats for Families!
COATS:
The Salvation Army is giving away coats through their food shelf (no appt needed), but there are residential restrictions and supply is limited. They do not have much for toddler or baby sizes or men's coats. They are OK on boys 7/8 and up and girls 10/12 and up. Coats may be new or gently used.

Must bring an ID for the people getting a coat (birth certificate or school ID for children is OK.

Community Health Worker Pathway Opportunity
The Community Health Worker (CHW) Pathway offers Health and Wellness employees in entry-level positions the opportunity to complete a nine-month, hybrid (online and in-person) community health worker certificate through St. Kate's University.
The Community Health Worker track will accept up to 10 participants. Priority will be given to those who are single parents, receiving public assistance, and/or are members of an underrepresented group in the Public Health workforce. To be considered, you must:
Earn less than $21 per hour.
• Be a Health & Wellness Service Team employee.
• Be employed with Ramsey County for one year.
• Have permanent employment status and are regularly scheduled 64+ hours per pay period.
Applications accepted through Nov. 30.
