Monster Mania
This project involved writing and art. Students in 3rd and 4th grade had to visualize a monster and draw a picture of it. Next, the students wrote a detailed description of their own monster. We then switched their writing with another class. Students in our partner class had to draw their partner's monster using the detail in the written description. Once classes were finished, we shared the original version to see what they actually looked like!
The results were interesting and generated lots of discussion!
It was monstrously fun!
Working on a slideshow of drawings.
Spider Web Bridges
12' of yarn + 6" of tape = a fun engineering challenge! Students in 2nd grade were challenged to construct a spider web bridge that holds as many LEGO blocks (aka spiders) as possible.
Building spider web bridges was a fun way for kids to test their engineering skills!
Halloween Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality brings Halloween to life in the Learning Commons! Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been learning about and using augmented reality during their Learning Commons time. We have had so much fun with these activities and I knew there were a couple for Halloween on the QuiverVision site so I printed copies of Happy Halloween and Pumpkins. Students designed and colored their Jack-o-Lanterns. When they scanned the two Halloween coloring sheets with the Quiver app look what happened. They came to life!
BookSnaps
There is a fun new trend in the education world called Book Snaps! We had students in 2nd through 4th create Book Snaps to share what they're reading! In 3rd and 4th grade, students used Buncee, but in 2nd grade, students used SeeSaw to create their own Book Snaps. This is a really fun way for students to share about what they're reading. They can highlight favorite parts of a book, add drawings overtop of a book page, take a picture of the book cover, and even use the microphone tool to tell about why the book is a favorite, or what they found interesting!
We plan on displaying these around the Learning Commons!
Until next month...
