This Week

Parents,

What an amazing week! I am so amazed and in awe of these students...I know it will be a year of tremendous growth! Please take a careful look through this week's newsletter. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Don't forget about the GT Curriculum Night on Wednesday, Sep. 12th from 6-7:30! I'll share information about our curriculum and other classroom information. The presentation will be shared in next week's newsletter if you aren't able to make it.

Thanks!

-Ms. Kate Martin

Photos of the Week

This Week

Math: Students completed a pre-test to help me determine which grade level of math they should start at this year.

Science: We started learning about the science process skills and the scientific method.

Reading: We completed a pre-assessment and learned about the Lexile system/choosing books.

Writing: We learned about the importance of stamina, fluency and volume in writing.

Enrichment: We learned about passion projects and how we'll be utilizing our enrichment time. Students also chose their first enrichment project and started researching!

Looking Forward to Next Week

Math: Students will be sorted into their math groups and will begin their first units.

Science: We will complete a science experiment by using the scientific method and will also follow the engineering design process and design, create, test and catapult!

Friday Folders

Peanut & Tree Nut Free School

We again have several students at Woodland that have a severe allergy to peanuts and/or tree nut product. Because of that, Woodland is a peanut and tree nut free school. Please understand that even touching a small amount of a product or accidental ingestion containing nuts could be a life-threatening situation. For these children, reactions can be immediate and life threatening. We are asking for your assistance in providing these students with a safe learning environment.

A no peanut or tree nut product policy means that there may not be any snacks or lunches that include contains any nut in the ingredients as well as anything that was made on shared machinery. It is OK to send snacks that say that they were made in the same facility as items containing nuts.

Thank you for your understanding and diligence!

Dismissal Enhancements

Arrival: All students will enter the main entrance then come to the classrooms.

Dismissal: GT students AND their siblings will be dismissed from the ELC doors in the rear of the parking lot.

School Hours: 8:32 a.m. - 3:39 p.m. (GT - 3:34)
Half-Day Dismissal: 11:45 a.m.

Please stand outside the ELS doors at dismissal and hold up your child's assigned number card. Once you hear me call your child's number, please move off to the side so more numbers can be called. The students will meet you outside.

Woodland Birthday Treat Procedure

If your child is interested in celebrating their birthday in school and you would like to send in something for the class, please do not send in food items. We suggest a small trinket, pencils, etc. instead. Thank you!
