From Book to the Screen
Perks of Being a Wallflower was originally a book by Stephen Chbosky. He then wrote a screenplay for the book and it later became a movie starring Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, and Emma Watson.
What is it about?
Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a teenage boy who goes by the name of Charlie. He is writing letters to the reader who he calls "Friend". He writes about his freshman year of high school and the friends he makes. Since he is the type of person who would rather sit back and watch things happen rather take part in them, he seems to have a difficult time fitting in.The title comes from the line in the book that his friend Patrick says.
You see things and you understand. You're a wallflower, Charlie.
Banned in Schools?
When the book first came out they wanted to ban it in schools due to the topics that are brought up. Such as the drug use and the teenage sexuality. But it became a very popular book for teenagers. Since the book was written in the 90's schools had a different view of what was acceptable in the curriculum than what is allowed now.
