Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
It was a normal night on April 12, 1865 when Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln attended a performance at Ford's Theatre. What the president didn't know, however, was that John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate sympathizer and famous actor of the time, had plotting Lincoln's murder.
When President Lincoln was deeply engrossed in the production, Booth saw his oppurtunity and leapt out behind a curtain, firing a bullet into Lincoln's head and then stabbing Henry Rathbone.
After killing the President, Booth jumped down onto the stage and shouted, "Sic semper tyrannis!" Booth broke his ankle but still managed to escape. Dr. Charles Leale rushed to the presidential box and found Lincoln paralyzed and struggling to breath.
The President was instantly paralyzed and was struggling to breathe when the doctors found him. The doctors concluded that the president couldn't be saved and would die in the night. Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865.
