Mrs. Haas' Third Grade News
March 20, 2016
I hope you all enjoyed some family time over spring break. It is hard to believe that we are heading into the final quarter of the year. Here's a look ahead this week...
Reading
We wrapped up 3rd quarter with our biography reading. We will kick off 4th quarter with a project to share what we learned during our reading. Students will use the ThingLink app to type text and create videos about the person they read about.
Writer's Workshop
We will spend time brainstorming this week for our How To Books.
Math
We will continue to explore geometry this week during math.
We have learned all our multiplication and division facts. Students will take a timed test each week that reviews all the facts from 0-10. Be sure to continue practicing at home to continue to build on fact fluency.
Social Studies
Monday afternoon we will wrap up our Kansas research project with Mrs. Hammes in the library. Students have been researching a topic for our Kansas ABC book. They will be using their facts to create a Chatterpix video. I can't wait to share these with you once they are all complete.
Science
We will continue to explore weather this week.
Kansas State Assessments
On Thursday and Friday morning this week, students will begin the English Language Arts and Math portions of the Kansas State Assessments. There is no prep work at home that students need to do to prepare for the tests. All the learning we have done this year has prepared them well. 3rd graders test each day starting at 8:45. Please make sure your child is on time to school those mornings, so we can begin our tests fairly quickly. A good night sleep and a healthy breakfast is a great way to help your kiddo at home.
Field Trip Volunteers Needed
We are heading to the Negro Baseball Museum and Jazz Museum on Friday, April 1. We will leave Prairie Star around 9:15 and return around 2:00. Let me know if you would like to join us for a fun day of learning about the history of ball players and musicians right here in Kansas City.
