The Skipper Scoop

Week of September 23rd

SKIPPER NATION

Hey Skippers! It was a busy weekend in Fairport Harbor. Friday night's game honored the Class of 1969, as well as our new Hall of Fame inductees. Saturday night was the Induction ceremony. The weather was perfect for Community Day, and several staff members spent some quality time in the dunk tank.

I would like the Skipper Scoop to have a broader audience. Can you recommend it to family, friends, or alumni that may be interested? They can follow me or email me directly for the link. Thank you in advance!

Happy first day of Fall!

Hall of Fame

The Fairport Harding Hall of Fame has four new inductees. Jessica Hibbard (2000), Skip Lakia (1973), and Steven Tokar (1985.) The fourth inductee is a group- the 1961 State Track team. The team members were Phil Belden, Hank Werronen, Gene Kangas, and Joe Yatscho.

Jessica, Steven, and Skip came to Harding before the assembly to meet with students and share their experiences about growing up in the village. This is one of my favorite events of the year. The kids are fascinated by the lives these people have gone on to live and always ask many questions. We appreciate them taking time out to give back to our students.

Saturday night they were officially inducted at a ceremony and dinner at the VFW. The dinner was catered by the Fairport Family restaurants and it was delicious! Linda Shetina Logan was the keynote speaker at the event. Gene Kangas represented the 1961 trach team. Thank you to the Fairport Harbor Hall of Fame committee for all their time and hard work, it was a great evening.

Class of 1969

The Class of 1969 came back to Harding for a reception on Friday night. We walked through the halls and found their composite picture. They had a lot of laughs and enjoyed reminiscing about their days at Harding. If these walls could talk!

Hannah Babbitt

Can we just say that Hannah Babbitt is a true inspiration? She is a full time college student at 17, a volunteer at McKinley elementary, and now a proud member of the 1000 dig club for volleyball!. She is a team captain and a true example of what a Skipper is. We are very proud of her and can't wait to see what she does after she graduates from Harding. Congratulations!
