TCPS FALL FUN!
Internet and Social Media Safety
TPCS encourages parents to have conversations with children about internet and social media safety. It is important to:
- Remind children to never contact strangers online, on any platform;
- Encourage children to share any worries or concerns with you;
- Ensure children understand the importance of not giving personal information to anyone they do not know;
- Tell children no-one has the right to make them do anything they do not want to do;
TCPS has all student devices set to “restricted” mode on YouTube and uses a filter for all student internet activity however we ask parents to partner with us in keeping our children safe online. Please monitor your child's internet use and discuss safe online practices.
Additional resources to foster intentional conversations with children about internet and social media safety:
- Family Online Safety Institute
- Common Sense Media
- Creating a Family Media Plan (American Academy of Pediatrics)
- Teaching Kids About Internet Safety (GCFLearnFree.org)
- Talking with Kids About Being Online (Federal Trade Commission)
- Tik Tok: What Parents Need to Know (ISP)
Athletics Update
On October 26th, the Maryland State Board of Education voted unanimously to allow school systems that had opted into the second semester plan for athletics to begin the winter season on December 7, 2020, instead of February 1, 2021. This change will eliminate the overlaps in seasons that were found in the second semester plan.
TCPS is working with the MPSSAA, Bayside Conference and Talbot County Health Department to finalize all the details as we prepare to start the competition season for winter sports on December 7th.
The new start date brings a change to the practice sessions. Fall sports will run from November 9th to November 20th. Please make sure your child is registered on FamilyID and an up to date physical is on file with the COVID questionnaire sheet completed.
Winter sports will have 2 days, Monday November 23rd and Tuesday November 24th before Thanksgiving break to meet their coaches, turn in all paperwork, and have a practice/conditioning session on those days.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the changing guidelines for athletics.
