Get up and Go!
Those four simple words echo in the back of my head daily courtesy of my dad....DAILY. He always talked about the one thing we can control in our life is the ability to get up and go each day. I was able to witness that trait passed on to my daughter this past Friday at the Charger Mile. In the clip above you will see Carson take a dive, then get up an go! When she stumbled, nothing was going to get in the way of her completing her goal. In the awards portion of the program, she didn't receive any recognition. She had no special award and she was hurt by it. It was the first time in her life she realized that she had to put a bit more effort. She told me about how she would have to change how she ran the race next time. It was my first glimpse of my daughter's mindset when faced with a challenge we didn't have some control of. It was one of the first times I saw her self-reflect. The events of the race caused her to feel like she failed. In her case, this was the first time in her life she began formulating a plan to turn the failure in her mind into a future success. It wasn't prompted by us, the entire night she was telling us how she was going to get better.
I am about halfway through the book MIndset by Carol Dweck. (I'd love for some of you to read it. Let me know I'll get you a copy). It really makes you think about if you have a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset. It talks about what a fixed mindset looks like and how we can change our way of thinking to help guide us to success. I hope to keep my mind focused on a growth mindset, its a really great book to help someone reflect on their own thinking.
I loved seeing my daughters own growth mindset this weekend!
