Broken Arrow Week 5 Recap
Kudos
Psalm 104:5 "He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." Wow! Think about that for a while. Take time to ponder his greatness. If we think about this verse in regards to our own life then we can rest in knowing that our Father is truly for us. He can work all things out. The King of Kings can't be shaken. See sees everything that we are facing and has compassion on us. I wonder if he looks at us and says just look up, look around at everything created. If I can make sure that the Earth can never be moved from orbit can't I take care of your and your needs.
This week Mrs. Maier had a family emergency and had to step out. Mrs. Petit quickly took over with ease and finished the morning for Mrs. Maier. Also to the rescue were Mrs. King and Mrs Kirkeby.
Mr. Patton rescued us in the boys bathroom!!!! Ladies please thank him and see my post under Facility announcements
Mrs. Somerville subbed in the Nursery due to one of our Nursery workers being out.
I absolutely loved seeing the kids bring in their biomes. They were so creative! Thanks to Mrs. Robinson for adding a visual effect to the Tundra with dry ice.
Will you join me in praying for the broken hearts of our city this week. I look at my facebook feed and I see so many people being misunderstood. They have huge hearts! Yet the enemy of this world is twisting people's words to mean something that they didn't mean. Will you join me in praying for healing for those that were affected this week? Will you join me in praying that God would be glorified in our city and that this situation would usher in a greater since of God's love. For it is the love of Christ that brings healing.
Classical Chats
The Classical Model of Education is based on the Trivium (Latin for 3 roads), which divides learning into three stages: Grammar, Dialectic and Rhetoric
Grammar: basic facts, vocabulary, and rules (Grammar gives us precision and proficiency in language; which enables us to read with comprehension history, literature, science, philosophy, and anything else.)
Dialectic: assimilate facts, reasoning, analysis, process new concepts (Dialectic gives us the ability to think rightly and arrive at valid conclusions, which develops our reason used in mathematics, science, and in evaluating what we ready in history, literature, etc.)
Rhetoric: present articulately, persuasively & logically to influence others (that we may make Him known!) Rhetoric teaches us to communicate and so becomes the handmaiden to writing, oratory, and in contributing to the ideas fostered by history, literature, science, etc.
Reminder: Grammar corresponds to Foundations; Dialectic to Essentials, Challenge A & B; Rhetoric to Challenge I-IV. Note that there are aspects of the dialectic and rhetoric in Foundations (scientific experiments & presentations, for example), and also new grammar in Challenge. It is a continual process.
This week at home for Foundations you should be reviewing week 1-5 New Grammar with your children. Talk to your tutors and other parents to see what they do at home.
If you would like to know more about the 100 Years War you can read Timeline card #82 and Story of the World Vol 2 Ch 25-26. Check out picture books from the library. Half Hundred Acres in the Woods has a great list.
For Week 6
Family Presentations - The DeNeui Family
Playground Duty - Wilson/Somerville
Suggested Oral Presentations: (remember you can always choose what you want your child to present, this is just a suggestion)
ABC/Apprentices: Show and tell me about a favorite piece of Art. Choose a painting or a picture form and art book or online. Tell us what you like about it, how it makes you feel. Point out OILS if you can.
Journeymen/Masters:
Exposition: Prepare an art project that uses the five basic elements of drawing. Point out the elements. Explain your piece and share about the medium it was completed in (paint, drawing, etc).
Skill to practice: Poise: Be calm. Stand tall and still. Calmly and confidently continue even if something goes wrong.
Campus/Facility Reminders
- Parents, please remind your children that paper towels belong only in the trash. Toilet paper only goes in the toilet. This week the boys urinal was over flooded. Mr. Patton not only mopped up the floor, he also got the urinal unclogged. It seems that our boys are stuffing paper towels in the urinal. If you have a young son who likes to play in the bathroom, you might want to let him go to the family bathroom and stand outside the door.
- Please remind your children not to go into the Challenge A classroom.
- Please remind your children not to play in the classrooms or bathrooms or run in the hallway. Lights need to be on and doors need to be open.
Prayer Requests
- Cindi's father had triple bypass surgery on Thursday afternoon. He is doing well but continue to pray for his recovery.
- Pray for the Lee family as they all bond with their new baby boy.
- Kathy's father-in-law has cancer. His spirits have been down (which is not like him). Pray for strength as he is going through treatment. Pray for his family to be strength for him.
- Pray for strength for the Burritt family as Jeff continues to search for a job and grow his digital marketing business. They need an extra measure of strength right now and for nothing else to break.
- Pray that God would give each mom and dad strength in our community as we are raising disciples for Christ.
- Pray that our marriages would be healthy and strong. Pray for vibrant marriages.
