Jr. Optimist Canned Food Drive
Junior Optimist Club is collecting non-perishable items such as canned foods for the less fortunate in our community. Please help the Junior Optimist Club collect these items. Students can place items in the box inside the attendance office or in Mrs. Braudaway’s room C112 or Mrs. Thompson’s room N133. Deadline to bring items is November 15th.

This program and luncheon reception celebrates the academic achievements of talented minority high school students with an interest in science, including agricultural and environmental science. Inside Ag Hill is February 27th
Students admitted to the College of Agriculture for fall 2015 are invited to come explore Ag Hill during the spring semester. Students will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, talk with students and sit in on a class. Parents are also invited to attend. If you haven't been on the Auburn campus before or even if you have, we encourage you to make plans to attend and get a taste of what it's like to be a part of the College of Agriculture family. Iron Bowl Challenge - Support your favorite team and raise money for the HGHS Library! Drop any change or folding money or checks to the bank of your choice. The team that raises the most money gets their fight song played over the intercom at the beginning of each class period! All contributions go to the high school library for books and equipment. You can also donate with one of our community partners, Gentle Touch Salon and Hazel Green Dental. We welcome your support, and may the best fans win! ROLL TIDE! WAR EAGLE!
Junior Optimist Food Drive - Jr. Optimist Club needs your help in collecting canned food items for the less fortunate in our community. Donation boxes are in the classrooms. Collection ends November 14th.

Robotics Club Fundraisers - The Robotics Club will be selling HEXBugs: Microrobots starting on Thursday, October 30th. Prices are $5.00 and $8.00. See a robotics student to purchase. They are also selling Gourmet Popcorn. Orders will be back in time for Christmas Break. Deadline to order is Thanksgiving Break.

Pizza Hut in Meridianville has designated the first Tuesday of every month as Meridianville Eagles Boys Basketball Night. Pizza Hut will donate 10% of all earnings from 4:00pm-9:00pm for anyone who mentions MVMS Boys Basketball when ordering - dine-in, carryout, or delivery!

National Career Development Association 49th Annual Poetry & Poster Contest - All entries must be submitted to the State Coordinator, Lynn Boyd at Troy University Montgomery Campus, College of Education, P.O. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Complete the nomination form online or call (256) 265-5000 for more information. HGHS had several representatives last year so apply today!

Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules, Current Announcements, Senior Information and Permananent Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.
Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. All students are strongly encouraged to utilize this service provided to us. For more information, visit http://www.actstudent.org/onlineprep/.
First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.
Parenting Assistance Line: PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.
Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
Loyalty Reward Tags: (Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
