Wrestling
Last week your Humboldt Hawks finished a perfect season with 6 victories over conference opponents. This means that for the second year in a row, Humboldt is the conference Champions! Congratulations to each and every member of the team, as well as Coach Novacheck and his excellent staff. Despite their regular season success, the Hawks are in a very competitive section with Nationally ranked Simley High School from Inver Grove Heights, as well as South St. Paul. The Hawks will spend this week preparing for their section opponent prior to their first sectional meet which will be held on Saturday, 2/19 at Cretin-Derham Hall High School. The match will begin at 9:00 AM. In addition to the team sectional, a few wrestlers will have the opportunity to qualify for the State Tournament as individuals. Good luck to all members of the Wrestling team this weekend!
Boys BB
The Boys Basketball team is coming off of a week full of City Conference Battles. The highlight from this week came early on, when our C-squad team played a tightly contested match with the Como Park C-Squad. This is significant because our C team is made up of entirely Middle School Athletes, with the exception of one player. The Hawks led in the first half and looked in control of the game backed by excellent performances from Taurean Williams, Danny Hobday and Tefsaamlak Sturm. The Cougars' coach was so nervous that he ended up subbing in JV players in the second half, which helped him put the game out of reach from the Hawks. However Coach Winters had a great perspective after the game, noting that if they needed to rely on 16 year old's to beat our 13 year old's, that shows we have a strong future ahead of us. While the results aren't there now, the future looks bright for the Hawks! The boys basketball team is back in action this week twice, with both games happening on the road. They will play Highland Park at Highland Park on Tuesday, 2/15/22 at 7:00 PM. Additionally, they will play at Harding on Thursday, 2/17/22 at 7:00 PM, and Como on Friday at 7:00 PM.
Girls BB
The Girls Basketball team tested themselves well last week with three tough games. The Hawks fell 10 points shy of defeating Rockford High School on Monday, but bounced back to defeat Minneapolis Edison handily on Tuesday. They rounded out their week with a 7 point victory over Mpls Washburn on Saturday on the road! The Hawks will look to keep improving this week, with a few more home games. They will play Minneapolis Patrick Henry TONIGHT 2/14/22 at 5:30 in the Main gym. They will also have a Friday home game slated for 5:30 pm against Community of Peace Academy. If you're available, come celebrate valentines day by watching your Humboldt Hawks continue to dominate!
