J.R. Briggs Turkey Trot 2022
Dear Briggs Families and Friends,
Over the past 15+ years John R. Briggs has held a Turkey Trot & Food Drive the day before the student’s Thanksgiving Break. On average, as a school, we collect between 800-1000 food items each year that are then donated to Ashburnham’s local Food Pantries.
What we are asking is that the students bring in non-perishable food items to be donated between November 14th - 22nd. This year we are going to have some friendly competitions between grades. When students bring in their food items they are to make sure they put their items in their grade level location. Each day I will count the number of food items each grade brings in and add it to their tally. To show the students which grade is winning, I have placed 6 featherless turkeys in the lobby display cases. For every 5 food items brought in for that grade, that grades’ turkey will get a feather. Items in greatest need are; pasta and pasta sauce, soups, canned vegetables, tuna, baked beans and oatmeal!
On November 22nd, the students will take part in a walk/run on the front field at Briggs. This walk/run is not a race but a chance to get outside and get some exercise.
Here at J.R. Briggs Elementary School we realize that there are many families in need. Through the Turkey Trot we hope to educate the students of J.R. Briggs on the importance of giving to those in need.
I hope you all have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mr. Berg
We are off to a great start!
Report Cards Are Moving Online!
Beginning with the close of the first trimester for the 2022-2023 school year, elementary student report cards will be made available to parents and guardians electronically via email and through an online portal. This portal is the same portal that is being used at the middle and high school level. Parents and guardians can use this portal at any time to retrieve their student’s report card.
Information on how to access the portal will be provided during the week of November 28th via email. Please be on the lookout for an email regarding PlusPortals during that time and please take time to set up your account.
If you have any questions regarding this, please contact edehays@awrsd.org.
Just a reminder, ice cream is $1.50 this year.

Calendars Home
As we stated on Thursday, our Raffle Calendars went home today (Friday) with each student receiving 10 to start. We understand that many folks will want more, so please reach out to classroom teachers or the office if you need more. In addition, we will leave some outside during the Thanksgiving holiday, just in case anyone needs any.
Good luck and we can't wait to start drawing names on December 1st.
Dear 3rd-5th grade Parents and Guardians:
The JRB Specialists will be doing a JRB Specials Block on the first Friday of each month beginning in December, where students in grades 3-5 are able to choose which block to attend for a 3-month period on the first Fridays during December, January, & February.
Mrs. Lordan would like to do a “build your own instrument” unit during the Music blocks, where students will research, plan, and then build and play their own instruments using recycled materials.
For students who wish to participate in the Music Specials Block, we are looking for donations of tissue boxes, washed food cans/ yogurt cups and rolls of tape (duct tape, packing tape, or painter’s tape).
If you have any of these items at home and wish to donate them, please send them into Mrs. Lordan by Monday, November 28th.
Questions? Email Mrs. Lordan: mlordan@awrsd.org
Thank you so much for your assistance with this project!
